Been lurking on mud for a long time getting opinions and ideas. It's finally time to git er dun.

turbos: a mashup of Supra hot side which is SLIGHTLY different from MR2 and a MR2 compressor side.

split flange located off ebay vendor
turbos sourced locally,
turbo oiling flange kit from ebay vendor,
Aviation digital Pyro 9 - 28V DC!
Princess auto boost gauge

misc stuff from EBI in Port Moody.

Progress so far:

pulled knuckles to take out 3rd to re-gear to 4.88.
- While out, the upper knuckle bearings are toast.

pulled 3rd member
cut RTV and removed oil pan

prepared to do the BEBs while im in there.

Pulled timing set, it's due.

Pulled exhaust system which was toast anyhow.

Cut exhaust manifold 1.25" and tacked on split flange. All is mocked up for the time being.

Photos below.

What's with the rounded blade tip?
Compressor wheel on the left, second blade clockwise.

dougal,

I have no idea why it's rounded like that. The turbo that donated that turbo had a collision shortly after the turbo was rebuilt. I can only presume that it was some extreme method of balancing it.

I'm going to have the CHRA balanced before i put it in. Perhaps a new turbine is in order.

and for the record, the 1PZ suffers the same BEB issues as the HZand HDT my #4 cyl BEB was scalling .

That turbine wheel looks like it took some damage, and then was filed smooth. It is commonly done on our jet engines after they get nicked or something, because the stress caused by a sharp nick is MUCH more than from a smoothed down dent.

That said, I've never heard of that technique inside a turbine, or on anything spinning that fast. I don't even know how you would balance that. If you file one side, you normally file the other side to even it out.

If it was me, I wouldn't run that.

Good to know about your BEBs. I think I'd better order a set for my 1HZ before I put a turbo on it...

got it going now.

boosting 7 psi, egts up to 800ish F. more info and photos to come.

are you running solid flywheel or the factory one .. ?

So I'm assuming that's a stock manifold with a home fabricated flange to accept the turbo your running?
