Problem
1983 FJ60 that would stall and sputter while off road on steep inclines or randomly while driving
Items replaced prior to Tank restore
New Fuel pump
Fuel Filters all of the time
Rebuilt Carburetor thanks Jim C
Extreme Tune Up (Valves, dist. All vacuum lines replaced ect)
Finally called Toyota about the recall and my tank was replaced in 1989 so I had no choice but to remove it. Tank came out with ease (TX truck little rust)
Followed the directions that came with the Kit
1.Drain excess fuel
2. Rinse with water
3. Use the POR 15 cleaner
4. Rinse with water
5. Use POR tank treatment (like metal ready)
6. Let dry for a couple days I ended up hooking up my shop vac to blow into the tank for a couple
Hours to make sure it was dry.
7. Dumped in POR 15 tank sealer and rotated the tank for ever to coat all areas.
8. Let dry for a week and reinstalled.
The Truck has never run so good I had some big chunks of who knows what in the tank that would block the pick-up tube and slow it down. The power increase was 30%. I was surprised that this helped this much because I had previously blown compressed air in the fuel lines to clear up any blockage.
I have finally fixed a problem that has plagued this FJ60 for years. I would recommend it to anyone who has tank issues.
And no I do not work for POR 15
