Hey guys,

I've been trolling the classifieds for a while, and I think I may have found a winner. 2008 LC with 63,000 miles for just under $42k.

JTMHY05JX85002026 I haven't run a carfax yet, but will spend the money if it seems reasonable to you. It's only 10 miles away, and looks super clean.

Any reservations on something like this?

David

The 2008s had driveshaft wobble (some do, some don't). Only a test drive will tell.

As to running the carfax, you can enter the VIN here: http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home

Create a user profile, and then enter the VIN as your own car. It will give you the complete history for free.

Looks like the drive shaft assy was repaired at 10k miles. All of the service looks to be done at Tustin Toyota, so possibly one owner. Would an accident show on this site if there was one? So far no indication.

Both carfax and the toyota website should indicate how many owners there were; look and see how many times the car was registered.

As to accidents--these sites are not foolproof, and neither is carfax. Be sure to look at both. If all check out, you may still want a trusted inspection done, or find a cruiserhead that can take a look for you.

Be sure to look at Carfax and the Toyota site. They can show completely different info sometimes.

That price seems a little on the high side. Getting a 2008, you should be able to get in the $36k - $38k range pretty easily.

Is the LC really that much better than other makes/models along the depreciation front?

I'd love to see some real data that supports this notion that the 200 series retains value better than average or even the 100 series. Thanks.

Yes, the 200 appears to be depreciating slower than other makes. As other threads have said, the low production numbers with the recent low fuel prices have caused the values to depreciate slower than expected (this is theorized).

If you want "real data" as you always seem to be asking for, you will have to do the research yourself.

Very nice, but unfortunately out of my price range. I like the darker colors as well. Thanks for the heads up though!

Taking a quick inventory of 2008's listed on cars for sale for a proxy:

11 total with average price of $38,329 and average mileage of 93,383. The rig you are looking at is in the bottom 25% percentile for mileage (68K) and the top 75% for price (40k), which is what you would expect.

It might be listed a little bit high, but if it is the color you want and is as clean as you say, I would negotiate but probably not walk away over what amounts to small dollars.

There just aren't a ton of them for sale (as you know given you have been looking) and it is in your back yard!

Sounds like a winner to me too, I say go for it. They are amazing rigs.

I just bought my 08 3 months ago for $38K and change with 76K on it, so price is about right. They aren't easy to find, especially a good Texas or AZ truck with zero rust, I saw some from the NE with quite a bit of surface rust on the undercarriage already, so look carefully at those. I have the wobble and thunk, so you are ahead there if they already fixed. Mine was sold as CPO, so Toyota is fixing it, but shafts are on back order... Other than the those 2 issues, I love this truck, and I have had three 100s and a 60... this one is the best highway driver of them all, and does very well in the sand, oh and gets a bout 3-5 MPGs more than than 100 series on the highway!
