Prices of rust free southwest 100's going up

I sure hope no one crunches my 100 series, I could never come close to replacing it, I would need more money then insurance would pay me, plus It's my only vehicle and I couldn't take months to find one as nice with my improvements. I think we need to quit telling people how great they are.
 
price of fuel and new truck prices are driving demand. New LC's sell for 75k and gas is 2.20 a gallon. I can get a new car tingle in my LC $10,000. 5 dollar gas would make me regret that decision.
 
Most insurance policies pay actual cash value, or "market value" in the event of a total loss, by using comparables for sale in your area. If yours is way nicer, it's kinda like having the nicest house in the neighborhood - it may never be valued properly. In addition, most policies also only allow $1500 coverage for aftermarket mods, so without the proper endorsement you will definitely lose out. :cheers:

I'll be disappointed if mine isn't worth more, though I don't put on many miles. Here in Arizona we think of Austin as being in the rust belt, albeit the far western edge.

Rust belt is where they use salt on the roads. My truck is from Las Vegas, moved to Austin. They don't treat the roads here in the winter. Does not snow, might get ice once a year for a few hours. I once lived in KC, now that's the rust belt!

Wrong asset class. Cars, with very few exceptions, are a depreciating asset, unless you're gonna garage it bubble-wrapped and pray for a miracle in twenty more years. Given where the fossil fuel, internal combustion engine market is moving, and where it will likely be in 20 years, I think you've got a better investment chance with baseball cards, or cheesy minted coins, or bobble-heads, or commemorative spoons, or....

Drive it, enjoy it.

Austin was great to my '65. I was lucky to find a rust-free California hundy and it loves this climate too.
 
I still look at 100-series for sale from time to time - every time I look I see some decent ones that are priced cheaper and cheaper, despite the majority of them being static in the $10-20k range. Just last month I saw two for sale on CL each for less than $8k, both 100% rust-free CA specimens with under 200k and in good condition. Now if I saw some 200-series get a little bit lower in pricing I know what I'll be driving....
 
I don't think they are going up , as much as holding their price range. I have a low mile (126k) '99, and I think in 3-5 years, when I think I will be selling it, it will be worth roughly the same as if I sold it today
 
Prices really aren't going up, more holding value. I paid $12k for my 98 in 2011, with 100k miles on it It's now has 165k on it. But even if I were selling it, I wouldn't let it go for less than $10k because of fuel prices and the difficulty in replacing it with something as nice for that money.
 
I live in Illinois and even the most beat up 100's in this area are not really "rust buckets". Is there rust underneath on the frame and suspension and whatnot? Sure just like almost every other truck on these roads. However the body on these seems to hold up really well. Don't see any driving around with too many holes in the body panels. Only seen a couple with some bad rust on the upper hatch but that's it, nowhere else. Now you look at American trucks of the same year and they are typically in much worse shape. Especially Dodge, but Ford and GM aren't too far off.
 
OK I'll bite... 2007 LC, all stock components (no mods), 88K miles all in AZ, no rust. What's a good guess what its worth? Edmunds says about $17-20K, but I don't know how good Edmunds is for a low volume car like the LC.

I have zero interest in selling, but I kind of like to know what its worth.
 
In Australia 05-07s with low miles can still fetch high $30s low $40s. It's so unfair. A new LX is nearly $180k with on roads. I picked up my 04 LX in april with 75'000 miles for $32k although I traded my rattletrap 2012 JKU for it.
