Oct 18 snuck up on me. I almost missed the date myself. It was too early in the month. If you are paying attention, let's meet the next week on the 25th. There is not a lot going on that weekend.
I am open to suggestions.
At this time of the year and season, we have many options open. We could drive downhill to warmer climes, or up for colder places. In any case, let's go!
In any case, lets meet at IHOP. Bring your ice chest!

That was the plan...
Bill and I were there, along with a lifted 91 Runner from that desert place down there.
I seem to remember that place from a past life. Something about heat, and not selling spray paint to kids with bandannas on their heads. It's really vague now, like a strange dream. Nothing like life here!

Bill and I found one decision simple to make; We need to get some trucks out next weekend before things get cold. That would be Nov 1 or 2. Even just a Sunday afternoon drive would be great if in the company of friends. Sunday afternoon and a short trip would be almost perfect. It's family day, bring kids.
We have a huge area to play in from Prescott. There is no reason for not having more trips or Sunday drives. We have been slacking! We have many of the places coveted by those "down there", right in our backyard. Mayer, the Agua Fria, Cleator, and Crown King are a short drive. The Black Hills and Mingus are close by, The whole Bradshaw range is clearly visible from here.
A lot of great people have gotten out to meet at IHOP. But I usually go alone on off weekends. Only once have we all gone together. This needs to change. We are becoming friends, let's waste gas together! We are surrounded by beautiful places that need visiting. We should go!
With CSC in the valley, it works like this; Somebody suggests a place, describes it, and everybody goes. Let's do it! Any ideas?

At Fossil Creek, my lady Jill was out of clean clothes when I signed up with CSC. She got a new shirt to wear, and promptly jumped in the creek in the old one! She had a new one to put on when she dried off.
All of you really missed out on that weekend. It was a blast! We do it every year in September. The Toyota Team helps out and also makes a great dinner afterwards. They always have lots of Toyota-label swag to give away.
We need to get out more, get more involved in AZ and international clubs, and get noticed.

We have had decent turnout during the recent summer. We are not hybernating in winter. There are plenty of warmer places to go in winter, or we can play in the snow. I have a BBQ and a microwave onboard! We can play. Winter fun works well.

This month will sneak up again. It is mid-month, on the 15th. That is next Saturday. I will be there.
Most often, it is on the 18th or later. But not this time.
To have breakfast, be there at about 9:15. We meet outside at 10:00. Park on the north side near Wendy's
If the turn-out is soft, I will be there the next week.
Cody, don't worry about missing the last few. Just be there. Please bring the kids if you can!
BTW, I found an attractive blond lady, and invited her to join us. She drives a black 80 and has a blond teenaged daughter. Her truck is looking good, and so is she. She seemed pleased to find other folks who like the truck. She may have a husband?.... Find out at the meet....

Hers was a beautiful black 80 with running boards. Really clean. It was shod with street tires. Phil would have had an orgasm seeing it. He is the black truck king.

Still hunting.

We will miss November too. Been busy hunting. We killed six deer out of seven tags in the last two weeks, but elk season is still upon us and I need to get a cow out in front of my wife before Dec. 14th. Every spare moment is spent looking for freezer meat. I haven't had to buy beef for over two years and don't intend to start any time soon.

The 80 I saw on the trail looked all stock, but I think it had some type of 3/4 length aftermarket roofrack on it.

Absolutely! Guilty as charged!
Of course they all have husbands who bought the Cruisers, but what the hell! When you are herding cats, any kind of catnip is allowed. If you have teenaged sons, I noticed that her daughter is kinda cute the way that teen kittens tend to be. Too bad that kittens grow up to be women.
If you would all come to a meet, we wouldn't have to resort to these coersive methods!

The meet today went well, a few of us got together. We decided that, A; This month is one in which the meet fell a week early due to the vagaries of the calender. So I will hang out at IHOP next week at 10 AM to meet with any stragglers. B; That next Sunday, Nov 23, at 1 PM we will meet at IHOP to find a trail to run. We meet up a bit late so that those who are so inclined can go to church. Then we go and play! We are entirely open as to destination, as weather will be a factor. We are open to suggestions. If the snow flies, we may drive right into it, or we may go downhill to avoid it. Either way, it's good fun.
Our brethren from the south are welcome to join us and offer suggestions. Any trail that we haven't traveled before is an option. We'll decide where to go at IHOP.
If any southern folk want to show, The IHOP is on Glassford Hill Rd., just north of Hwy 69 in Prescott Valley. It is on the left just before you get to Fry's on the same side.

KBill has an idea in the Wickenburg area that sounds interesting. Ben has a place near Cleater that could be fun. Lower altitudes are the game for the near future, unless we want to play in snow. I will want to find a microwave for day runs in snow. For afternoon runs in cold weather, quick hot food is good. I'll work on it. I need an old analog (not digital) microwave that doesn't have any glass in it. I'm looking.
No, I'm not kidding! If there is snow on the ground, I want hot soup and sandwiches NOW! I can do it.

When hunting is over and the holidays are behind us I could probably create a pot of barbeque for a desert run. I know a few rather neat spots down where it's not as cold, but still in Yavapai County. Of course everyone will be sworn to not post these places on the web.
That will ruin a nice spot in a heartbeat.

I know all too well how to ruin a great place. Kevin and I used to go up to Four Peaks. We told too many people. I will never repeat that mistake. I remember the burning of Four Peaks. We told some people, who told others. They told the idiots who burned the place to cinders. The area will recover, but not in our lifetime. It is destroyed.
We used to go on Sundays. It was 18 miles from the top down to pavement, with a 5,000 foot altitude drop. We would sit up there in summer until dark. Then we would go down the hill with the driving lights blazing.
We would watch the city lights come on from high above, then we would drive down the hill. We needed to reach the Pizza Grotto before closing time. We zigged down the mountain from the top. Pizza is very important.
We used to fly down the hill with amazing speed. From the top to the pavement was 18 miles of rough mountain roads. My best time was 41 minutes, 32 seconds. I timed it. I made my best time in the dark. I couldn't see the cliffs on the roadside. My buggy ran fast, and mostly sideways in a four-wheel slide. It was the farthest thing from a LC80 that you can get. It was an adrenaline rush on wheels! It was a cheap toy until I wrecked it. I did that often! I never wore out a tire on that car. I just shredded them! That car has been totaled several times on mountain roads. It has gotten home every time!
I crashed that car about every month and a half for several years. Every time, I patched it up and drove it home. That car always got me back home!

All BS aside, we have a meet date on December 20. In spite of Christmas, I hope to see all of you there. We have had some wild weather here. It has been near frozen but not quite.
Christmas is the time when we all must do all that we can to spoil our kids. We cannot forget to do everything that we can for our best girlfriends as well. Cool gifts and great parties are the mode of the season.
Given the stress of the season, maybe we should let the air out of the tires and play in the snow for a couple of hours. Following the meet of the 20th, we might drive uphill until we find some snow. Then we could chill for a couple of hours while the kids play. The "adults" may just kick back. Those of us who are supposed to be mature might sit back and watch. Sure we will! We won't tell if an adult throws a snowball! We would never show kids how to make snowballs. We are more responsibile than that! Acting like children is above our dignity. NOT!
We just will not tell our dignity that we were involved in the snowball fight. That would be beneath us. The kids have more fun when we are in it, but we will never admit that we love it.
Adults acting like kids is the spirit of Christmas. We all thrive on it. I'll bet that I can make a better snowball than you can! I might stuff it down the back of your coat! Look out!

There is an open house at my place on Christmas Eve. Drop by one and all! We have a well cooked beef Brisket, some mulled cider and rum, and beer. The candy canes on the tree are meant to be eaten by kids. There will be no slapped hands. The kids can have what they want. After all, this is Christmas!

That is when the meet happens. It has been a bit chilly lately. but the weather is movimg out.\

For January 17, there are some options. Ben has a hidden mine in the Cleator area that he would like to show us. He reports great scenery and wheeling in the area that I have to agree with.
Looking at my map, I can see a route from Poland Junction down to the Agua Fria river bed, leading to the old Stoddard mining town. I know a way into Stoddard. But it is a boring graded road. The other way would be more fun. Once there, we have a number of trails leading to mines that we could explore, and trails to play on. There is a nearly perfect shooting range there if we want to play lone ranger with guns.
I am familiar with the lady who owns the Stoddard Ghost town property. We are welcome to use the place as long as we do not remove anything that has historical value. There is some litter there. We are allowed to shoot up any litter as long as we remove it afterwards.
Stoddard was a thriving town in the 1880's, and a few buildings are still there. The area is currently mined for the kind of shale rock that is used for stackable landscape walls. That sort of rock is plentiful there.
We could play there all day!

Since I noted the above, I have checked some maps dating back to 50 years ago. They show the roads both ending about three miles apart on the Agua Fria River. The intervening distance would be raw river canyon at best. It might be fun to try to drive the river, but the chances of finding private property would be high. The chances of finding a supposedly impassable waterfall are just as good. I am game to give it a try. It's been a while since my 80 fell off of a cliff!
If that doesn't work out, there are a lot of trails around Stoddard. Most of them involve mines or tailings. There is a lot of history there. We could see a lot of the reason that these areas were settled. If we go there, bring your guns. There is a perfect shooting range there. It is a pile of mine tailings 50 feet high. We have had some fun there.
