As far as I know, the June Prescott metro meet is on the 21st at the IHOP in Prescott Valley. Be there at 10 AM.
The location at a well-known breakfast place seemed to increase attendance in May. We had some interesting older trucks show up. Things are picking up! We had a very clean old 40 driven by a veteran LC builder.
Cody brought his adorable daughters to meet us. If I had known, I would have kept my daughter there to help to entertain them. She loves younger kids!
Ben, if you can make it, please bring your truck. We would like to see it.
I have directly invited some folks to join us. Has anyone else done as much?
Our main goal is to WOW the wagon 80 folks, as well as to invite all of the modified trucks. We are surrounded by all kinds of Land Cruisers. In the Prescott area we see all kinds of modified LC's. They are all owned by people who need to have a solid breakfast on Saturday morning! IHOP will provide!
The meet will usually run for an hour, starting at 10 AM. Get breakfast before the meet or brunch after.
Bring the family and have a good time! there is no cost, except for the price of food at IHOP.

Since I moved north, I have been nortoriously bad at having any real idea of the week that I am living in. Every day, I have to call my business partner at about 8:30 AM. I wake him up. Then I ask him what day it is. He doesn't really care any more than I do. Monday, Thursday or Saturday doesn't really matter! They are all the same. We have work to do every day.
Retirement sucks! I have been retired, and it is boring!
We work most days, but we really don't worry about anything. We work a lot, but we take time off whenever. We always have a backlog of work to do.
We run one of the busiest home remodeling outfits in the area. But we are both retired. We don't work. We just do what we like to do. We enjoy our work.
We do what we do because we love the work. We enjoy it. We create things.
Recently, we were a part of the creation of a horse-breeding ranch that is well known across the US and Europe. We built up the ranch house to the world-class standards that are expected of such an establishment. We did the work during the breeding season. We took our families to visit the young colts in infancy. Our daughters loved visiting the ranch during the season when the new foals were born. The owners welcomed our families. They would come to see our work. But they were far more interested in the young horses. Our kids spent hours feeding carrots (horse candy) to the mother horses. They loved every minute of it!
This is only one of the things that we are privately allowed to see as insiders and contractors. Our work is a matter of enjoyment almost more than employment. Retirement really sucks!!

Sorry for that last foray into territory outside of the reason for this thread! I do enjoy my occupation! It beats working for a living! I get to play, make stuff, and I have enough power tools to make "Tool Man Tim Taylor" jealous! He hates me!
By the way, Cody, I have tried for eight years to wear out that grinder that I loaned you. Brother Rob bought it for me as thanks for fixing his 4-Runner years ago. I bought two new ones this week. If you can kill that one off, go for it! It is yours. Wear it out and beat it up. I have a feeling that you will need it. I often use a power tool for a single year, and then donate it to a good cause. Then I buy a new one. That one has lasted over 8 years. It is a real veteran!
The main reason for this thread is to get Cruiser owners together at one place and time each month in the Prescott Metro area. We are beginning to have some success at this.

In June, I had guys look me up in the IHOP as I was paying the breakfast bill. How they knew me, I do not know! But I appreciated that Ben and Bill showed up.
On finishing breakfast, I found a very clean 40 parked next to my truck. It was the same factory green as the 40 that I grew up with. Not the tractor green that I chose. It is nicely built, with a lift.
He also has a 60 that he would like to build. He may prefer to sell his 40. He has been restoring Cruisers for several years.

Yay, its almost the 3rd Saturday again....weeeeeeeeeeeeee

This is the way Prescott Cruiser Saturday is supposed to be!
Several people made it out to IHOP in the morning. After food and talking for a while, some of us decided to load up and head for the hills.
Tom (Bio-D), Cody and I drove, with several passengers. My family had things to do and couldn't make it, so one of Tom's students jumped in my truck. Tom lead the pack much of the time, because he was the only one who thought to bring a GPS.
We went up Poland Road to the pass where 5 roads meet. (The scene of last winter's slip-sliding tire test adventure.) First we turned left up to Big Bug Mesa. The views from there are spectacular!
Beyond the mesa is a maze of trails, and we explored several of them for a couple of hours.
Back at the 5 roads, we chose the trail over Mt. Union to Senator Highway. The pass is over 6000 ft. high and the Mt. Union road goes up from there. Judging by the types of trees we were over 8000 ft. The trail is a bit rocky, but not really difficult. It just climbs and climbs, and then it goes up some more. The forest is thick up there, with huge blue spruce and even some aspen.
Once we reached Senator Highway, we took the lazy cruise back into Prescott and home.
It was a beautiful summer day with terrific scenery and fun trails. Sign me up for next month, or sooner if anyone wants to go.

OK boys, what's the deal?
I took a couple of weeks off, and what happened to our Prescott group?
I bumped into Bill at the smoke shop. He told me that he was the only one who showed up for the meet in July! What is up with the rest of you?
I did my usual summer penance, doing seat time in airplanes and rental cars on Cape Cod, in Boston and on the coast of Connecticut. Imagine my reaction on returning! I find that without me, the rest of you are not able to have breakfast and go wheeling together just one Saturday in the month! What's up with that? We are all Cruiser folks. Why can't you all go wheeling without me? We are all friends here. What is the problem?
I would like to see an active Cruiser group in the Prescott metro area. But I can't do it alone. I can't be the only rooster in the yard, nor can I be the mother hen, telling everyone when & where to meet.
I am rather close to suggesting Bill as the leader of a local group. He showed up for a meet when most of you did not while I was away traveling. He has the maturity that many of us lack, and he has built more custom LC's than all of us put together. I nominate Bill to lead. Any seconds?
The next meet is Saturday, August 16 at 10 AM at IHOP.
Let's meet there and deplete IHOP's egg supply. Food is good. Everybody should have some every day!
A great breakfast is the start of a great day. All other cliches apply. We go to IHOP to meet and eat. Then we go and play!

I know of a place on Senator Hwy that is covered with rasberry or blackberry brambles. We will be going to see if the berries are ripe. We will try to get them before the bears and raccoons eat them up. There is nothing so good as wild berries. I shove them into my pie hole right off of the bush, getting my mustache and beard all sticky. We might even bring some home to make pies.

OK, so no replys...
I still nominate Bill as our fearless leader.
We need a sensible guy. Bill has built more LC's than most of us can dream of! He has been 20+ years old for a lot longer than I have! He is also the only man who showed up for the July meet while I was away. I can trust him.

Today's meet was pretty cool! Attendance is back to anemic from June, but was helped by the appearance of an Aussie Troop Carrier. John, (igotyoubabe325) brought it over. It is even right-hand drive. The truck looks like a 40 except that the back is looong! It has room for two sets of the 40 jump seats. John is a great guy, and his wife is a terrific lady. She actually talked him into buying the old Troopie LC. She loves LC's, wheeling, hunting and fishing. What a Lady!
Bill was there, as always. I am beginning to really appreciate Bill. He knows so much more than I ever could about each kind of LC. In 10 minutes looking at the Troopie, he pronounced it to be Aussie, rather than South African, or other place of manufacture. He was right, as usual.
Bill brought his wife's later 4-Runner. We razzed him about bringing a real truck next month.
We gave up the idea of going out to play. My wife Jill is a teacher, and school starts on Monday. She's a bit busy. John was ready to go. Maybe next month, or sooner.

Sorry I missed the meet on Sat. That work thing is really starting to bug me. Especially when it occurs on a Saturday.
Well, Cody and I got to go wheelin today. Just around on some local trails in the Bradshaws. We got invited to go along with some J**ps, so we can't bag them too hard. Long story short, One of the jeeps is still out on the trail with a snapped axle. Out on the saddle between Maverick Mtn and Mount Tritle. ***If anybody (with a winch) would like to be part of the Jeep Recovery Team tomorrow late afternoon Please post up. I will check messages tomorrow until I get off work. PM me w/ a phone # if you are available.

You should know better than to play with trucks that have a four-letter word on the grille! They always break down! The broken axle or cracked frame is a Jeep trademark. They take pride in breaking stuff. That is because their toys are wimpy. Jeeps are girly 4x4's. We have ladies in the club who would not be caught dead driving a Jeep! LC's are made out of real steel, not tin....
LC's just do not get broken on the trail. They are boring that way. A solid LC with a good driver can drive over nearly anything. So can a Jeep. But the jeep will break, while the LC will not. that is the bottom line.

Aug. meet

Thanks to Brian for all the kudo's. Cass and I went out Walker rd. and came back over Mt. Union since that was the last place everyone else went just to see it. Of course I took a wrong turn at the bottom and instead of Poland junction ended up on on Big Bug Mesa road and back on walker rd. That will teach me not to take my maps. Bill and Brian figured out all the improvements that need to be made to the diesel chugger very quickly so to the drawing board.

On that same hill a couple years ago, We were there for hours, because of a broken down FJ55. We were on a TLCA run near maverick Mt. and it was late in the day. This 55 was making a strong attempt to get up the hill when started bouncing and on the second bounce we all heard the snaps. He broke his front driveshaft, and his rear pinion shaft. That sucked because not only did he not have front wheel drive, but the pinion gear minus the shaft part was able to fall back in the diff and jam up the diff gears. That was a long night. I don't want to knock anybody off their high horse, but LC's do break on the trail. Not nearly as often as the J**ps do. I will strongly agree that our drivetrain is far superior, but to say LC's do not break is not realistic. I've broken 2 locking hubs, 1 front axle shaft, and I've even had a fan blade break off and stick in my radiator. That was on my '72. So things are bound to happen when parts get that old and worn. Now this jeep that broke on the trail last Sunday was an '06, with low miles. So jeeps are weak, but Landcruisers are not invincible.;)
