Has anyone had experience running a predator carb for off-road work ? Just seems to me with no float bowls to worry about it may work well ? Hit me, I'm ready !:meh:

Hey FJFOOL, I just picked up a '69 40 with a Chev 292 (straight 6) and a Predator Carb. Im still trying to get things running and i think that it likely needs a rebuild (in just trying to get it running it's already leaking gas). Do you have one? Any thoughts? The literature online seems to agree with your good for off road theory.
THANKS!

A jeep guy i knew years ago tried one and did not like it. This was on an AMC 360 though.

I would assume from the lack of posts on this forum about that carb that they are not very popular for Land cruisers. In other words, if they worked really well off road you would see a lot more info about how great they are... just sayin...
I had for years a Man A Fre Rochester conversion that was supposed to provide more power and off road ability, but I never realized what a piece of junk it was until I put a factory Aisin carb back on. No issues with flooding on ascents/ descents/ off camber angles like I had with the Rochester.

Question- have you driven the truck with the Predator? How does it do?

around here they are old news ,dont like to idle well, load up all the time and eat a lot of fuel ,stock carb works well .on a v8 it qj all the way.

I ran 1 on a BBC in a 40. I used to do mud runs w/it. I don't really recall anything about it except it was pure acceleration, no 4bbl to kick in. I think on the trail I had some issues w/it, but I can't recall what they were. A friend, I used to race with had 1 on his built SBC in a old pickup & it ran great, but he didn't trail ride much. I only know that when I removed the BBC it didn't have the predator on it, & I was doing more trail riding at that time. It's somewhere in my basement along w/the BBC w/a different carb on it. I'd would have never thought of putting 1 on a 6 cyldr. That seems a little extreme.

Yeah, I seemed to recall adjusting on it all the time. It was never consistent.

My 68 had a Carter on it when I bought it in 74. Switched to Rodchester. Later switched to a 500 Holley Downey use to recommend then later to the 350. Had plenty of power on the highway with the Holleys but off road they were garbage. Finally sourced a correct OEM one barrel carb for the 68. No problem stalling going down hill and it will idle up steep hills at 400 RPMs without dying. OEM all the way.
