"CG" is Center of Gravity. A lower CG is always preferred for vehicles, hence low slung race cars. A higher CG will impact your cornering, off camber articulation (read: leaning), braking, basically all around handling and with a tire on top, make your rig too tall to allow you to get into many parking garages. What is GC ?
I will not be the one who puts it up there , only take it down if I need it and I'm thinking of away to hoist it down .
The roof is the best place for it , IF , someone would engineer away to lower it safely , with ease .
Well , a rear door like that on the Prado , would be best
I think he ended up selling it before he got to the rear doorIf you can PM this member: Builds - Good luck Kiichiro! A build story. - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/good-luck-kiichiro-a-build-story.1115968/
He was trying to convert his GX into a Prado, but I think he may have sold it by now. But it wouldn't hurt to PM him!
I would guarantee that he would know for sure!
I'd avoid putting a spare on the roof.
Reasons: it increases your CG, increases your height for parking garages and is somewhat of a pain to put on and take off especially if it's a large oversized tire.
But again, that's just me, and having been through all that.
Do you think he has it hanging by the s metal ? I'd hope it is connected to the door frameI'll run my spare on the roof when off-road if we are camping inside of the truck and need the space for our sleep system. Until I get a proper rear bumper with swing out tire carrier my spare unfortunately resides in the cargo area unless offroad, then it goes on the roof. @Kid you could always go with the JW Offroad rear door tire carrier if you want the same utility as the Prado rear door. My biggest fear with that setup is the weight of the spare tearing the sheet metal over time.
Supposedly the door structure and hinges are the same from the prado to the GX. Several people have used the JW off-road mount with 33-35+ tires, on trails, for years without issue. I don’t own one nor have tried one so I cannot speak personally about its strengthsDo you think he has it hanging by the s metal ? I'd hope it is connected to the door frame
