Will it fit ??
Anyone know about this ?
I have a gx 470 and gx 460 , would like to have the door from a Prado on my 460
Because of the spare tire placement

They sell the Prado in Costa Rica , maybe drive down and look for a used rear door

How about a way to carry tire on roof , using a latter mounted to rear door to retrieve tire

That should be your job , you get one first :)

I'd avoid putting a spare on the roof.
Reasons: it increases your CG, increases your height for parking garages and is somewhat of a pain to put on and take off especially if it's a large oversized tire.
But again, that's just me, and having been through all that.

What is GC ?
I will not be the one who puts it up there , only take it down if I need it and I'm thinking of away to hoist it down .
The roof is the best place for it , IF , someone would engineer away to lower it safely , with ease .
Well , a rear door like that on the Prado , would be best

I'll run my spare on the roof when off-road if we are camping inside of the truck and need the space for our sleep system. Until I get a proper rear bumper with swing out tire carrier my spare unfortunately resides in the cargo area unless offroad, then it goes on the roof. @Kid you could always go with the JW Offroad rear door tire carrier if you want the same utility as the Prado rear door. My biggest fear with that setup is the weight of the spare tearing the sheet metal over time.

"CG" is Center of Gravity. A lower CG is always preferred for vehicles, hence low slung race cars. A higher CG will impact your cornering, off camber articulation (read: leaning), braking, basically all around handling and with a tire on top, make your rig too tall to allow you to get into many parking garages.
Been their, done that, won't do it again. ;)

Who's going to be first?

other options:
JW offroad - Project GX Spare Tire Carrier 3.5 - https://www.jwoffroad.com/collections/project-gx460/products/project-gx-spare-tire-carrier-3-5-gx460-centered

ACC Garage (this is for a 470. maybe it fits? maybe they could make one for the 460?) - Becky (GX470) — ACC Garage - https://www.accgarage.com/gx470/becky

DIY - There are some posts on here about using a jeep mount but I cannot seem to quickly locate

Hitch Mount- many options in a very broad range of quality and price

Been running the spare on the roof for a while. Other than getting turned away from parking garages, no issues.
I too was worried about the CG, but it turns out the GX is such a boat that shifting the weight up top doesn't have much effect.

In your quest for a Prado rear door, you may want to check what the load range is for a spare hanging off the rear door in case you're planning on excessively large tires.

Do you think he has it hanging by the s metal ? I'd hope it is connected to the door frame

Need one for a Gx 460 rear door ladder

Supposedly the door structure and hinges are the same from the prado to the GX. Several people have used the JW off-road mount with 33-35+ tires, on trails, for years without issue. I don’t own one nor have tried one so I cannot speak personally about its strengths

Structurally the rear door was never intended to have 80-100+ pounds hanging off of it. There are reports of Prado rear doors having issues over time with stock size spares so it's definitely something to consider. I am also not a fan of drilling the rear door, it's not reversible in that regard.
