Yes-better solution and I’m gathering material and tools to do that in addition to replacing battery cables and various ground straps around the truck. These were super easy and more of a “proof-of-concept” than a final solution-wanted to see how much of an improvement the relay upgrade would be.What you may find lasts longer will be to track down some grounding flat braid and use it instead of those short jumpers.
About the rear hatch lock…try this.Just did both of these wiring upgrades (locks and windows) and the difference is amazing!! When I got the truck 5 years ago it had sat for 6 years so I replaced most of the window felt and rubber with only a marginal increase in movement-definitely dependent on temperature. After doing the window upgrade and a bit of lubrication in the mechanics, all three windows are faster (>4 seconds) than the drivers window (6+ seconds). I will be making new door cards soon and at that point I will remove mechanics and go through them.
Door locks were basically non-functioning and now almost jump out of the doors. Just need to sort out the rear hatch lock and I’m very happy!
Regarding new ground wires for the door-I took the easy way out and made short jumpers that go under hinge bolts-with the doors open the bolts are easy to access. Some may frown but it’s my truck!! View attachment 3963368Threading through existing looms looked like a lot of work and potential damage and drilling new holes wasn’t desired. We will see how these survive but at least they are super easy to replace and are doing the trick as the windows work really well!!
I’ll confirm that-thx. At one point one direction (lock of course!) worked but not unlock (only lock that moved at all before relay upgrade) so I disconnected it completely as I kept locking it and then had to crawl into the bank to unlock.About the rear hatch lock…try this.
Replace the “lock” fuse in the fuse box (if you haven’t already) , even if it tests good, with a new fuse. I can’t tell you why it worked for me, but it did. (And reset the button on the bottom of the relay under the dash-I think).
Previous owner was speechless. He had shops try to fix it for years and no one could. Been working great for me for 10 years.
Again I have no idea why it started working after I did this.
