Hello,

I just purchased a 2003 land cruiser with a power steering line leak. The return line is leaking from the location below in the photo. The previous owner replaced the power steering rack so i am guessing they bent the line or torqued it while swapping the racks out and caused the seal to break. I can get a new gates return line, but was wondering if anyone knew the size of this hose to just replace this short section of it since it is already held on by hose clamps? The best i can find is that its either 3/8 or 5/8 transmission line hose.

Thanks!

So this never got answered, because there may not be an answer. But for everybody that has done a steering rack replacement, how difficult is to replace that entire high pressure assembly with the steering rack in place. My high pressure line is seeping enough it needs to be replaced, and I have found the part I need, but is it a 🍌🍌🍌🍌 job.

Just looking for thoughts and insight

I've done this, with the rack in place. Not bad at all. I bought both hoses new from Toyota, but, in hindsight, would probably take the assemblies to someone like Parker Hose to see if they could replace the soft hoses in between the hardlines. Probably less expensive. I think I paid over $500 for new assemblies from the dealer.

Thanks for the insight, yeah swinging by the dealership tomorrow. Partsouq has it for 250, so I’ll probably choke when I get a cost from the dealer.

Thanks again

does anyone know whether this power steering pressure hose number that is shown above, part number

44410-60593

will fit my 2002 LC. Online parts website says it is backwards compatible. But original (2002 and prev.) part number was

(44410-60510)

but the former is much cheaper at partsouq. If so is there any preference of one over the other for the 2002 model year.

I actually just had the assembly replaced in mine a couple days ago. PN 44410-60510. Total cost including new fluid was around $600. Took a couple hours to do. Removed some panels from underneath while on the lift as this is only way to work on it.

FWIW, the hose is metric; I would advise against using SAE hose on a metric pressure fitting. The sizes aren't close enough to seal properly. @super90 has the right idea, though. If there isn't a hose shop in your area, try a diesel truck repair shop. Metric pressure hoses are available from Parker or any of the other name brands. Just make sure the hose is compatible with ATF. Fuel and air lines are not.

Actually the 3/8" ID transmission cooler hose works well (a little tight) here, and for reservoir return hose of the 98-02. Some parts stores' have a thicker walled hose, which OEM clamps can be reused on. Some are a thinner walled, so clamps should be replaced. In those I use fuel line hose clamps.

There are also aftermarket complet return lines available.

The number one reason flex hose weeps, it's not properly secured. It then vibrates/bounces around causing it to loosen from hard pipe end and go bad. This bolt holding line bracket to rack, was missing.

I agree with Cali100. I jad the same thing done on the 4 runner. If corrosion causes one leak there will be others to follow if the whole rack is not replaced. The total cost was about $600.

Without a lift that job would be a tough one.

Hi @2001LC , i have this exact same issue as you did on my LC100. This same hose on the pressure line is weeping severely. I am curious, how is your repair with just replacing that hose holding up? I can either do what you did, easy, quick, and inexpensive, or I can replace the entire thing for about $120 in parts, but a lot more intensive: More Information for SUNSONG 3403598 - https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=7660180

You asked about/said "pressure line" which I'll assume you're speaking about LOW Pressure line. 3/8" transmission cooler line w/fuel line clamps works very well.

3/8" transmission cooler line w/fuel line clamps works very well. It's a bit tight on the reservoir return nipple, depending (various manufactures) on wall thickness.
