Any suggestions on power steering conversions out there? My current steering components are toast(moving toward unsafe). I've been looking at kits but don't know which ones work well or are recommended by anyone other than the seller. I've been considering the power kit from AA, but its pricey and I wanted to be sure before jumping in. My fj40 has a 327 Chevy in it, moving to Chevy power steering seemed to be the way to go. Ideas?

The Saginaw box is by far the strongest of the options. Normally mounting to a SBC is easy as well but the 283 and 327 did not have mount holes in the front of the block and heads for a steering pump. There are many companies that specialize in adding ps to tri-5's or older chevy trucks that make mounts that tie to the waterpump and exhaust manifold.

I have the chevy 350 so keeping it toyota was not really an issue. I did the 3 bolt saginaw astrovan conversion, went well and I am very happy with it. I do not need the extra strength of the 4 bolt saginaw box and it keeps everything under the hood.

Where do want to end up? FJ60 box is pretty clean on a SBC swap using a saginaw pump. Can go hydro assist pretty easy if desired.

Bigsley I went full saginaw with my 73'40. Couldnt be happier, however I was able to use recourses outside of the cruiser world and did my conversion for about $350. Started at the stearing wheel and went all the way out. Used my stock column just regutted it with new stuff. Couldnt be more happy with the end result. The mini truck conversion worked fine but the Saginaw eliminated the centerlink. Now I can drive with one hand comfortably. If Interested I do have pics, part sources and part #s.

I just finished a saginaw conversion and couldn't be happier. I never thought I would be able to parallel park my 40 only using one finger:clap:

why dont you just scrounge the parts together yourself from a pick n pull lot and just buy a bracket from a supplier to mount the box on the frame. its not hard to do, if you can put a kit in you can gather the parts. have you checked out the power steering installs in the the tech section ? IH8MUD.com - Technical i did mine myself and spent a lot less then the kits cost.

Cruiser Outfitters, Mark's Offroad and CamCruiser13 helped me get the Saginaw conversion parts I needed.

I have the same dilemma. I have a 283 that does not have the mounting holes necessary for the swap and have been unable to locate the correct mounts for the alternator and PS pump. My alt needs to be relocated to the passenger side which will conflict with the battery so that will have to be relocated also. The PS gear box I decided on is from the FJ60 along with a saginaw pump. My rig is not my DD but I would like to have this thing done some day. sorry to hijack

Try this place:

Small Block Short Pump

They have pretty much everything you need and the mounts are VERY strong, nicely made stuff. If your old 283 has the front type mounts, they even have a p.s. setup for that as well. Look at "Power steering" on this link, it has a link for belt placement and pump to pulley specs as well. The mount costs a bit less than summit wants for a corvette type pump mount as well, which is what you'd need for an old 327. Built sturdier too.
