It just changes the shift map. There are a few maps the the ECU uses, low range, cruising, most to full throttle, etc, the power button causes it to use the most to full throttle map all of the time. In other words, if you nail the throttle there will be no difference between it on or off. If you like the motor revving higher before each shift, use it. :meh:

I notice the difference in shift points when the power button is turned on when I'm driving up steep grades, especially at higher elevations.

I don't use mine around town or for most trips on the highway...but anytime I have much of a load (either inside the vehicle or when towing) I do find it useful then.

On in hi, off in low. Usually use 2nd gear start in low and then shift down to 1st when needed

Don't the shift points automatically change in Low Range anyway?

Not sure on that. Just know that unless I'm really working an obstacle 1st is like starting in granny gear. 2nd works great for most applications for me.

Yes, low range map is more aggressive and doesn't use 4th gear. I have the 4x4 switch unplugged, so don't use that map, mainly because I mostly manually shift on the trail and with the crawler gears like the 4th gear option.

We have the ECT button on the '93-'94 which I assume means "excitement" . That said, I have enough of that sort of thing in my life and I like to just tool around like a light-footed octogenarian and have no desire to add any more pep into my day.

It does make it feel like you are going faster or in more of a hurry, but I like just Cruising the Land at the pace that I obtain without using it. I don't have any issues with pick up or any feeling of needing more power as my motor is mostly rebuilt and runs like a dream.

Where is this 4x4 switch you speak of?

Got a pic?
Those are worth a thousand words from what I gather.

Oops, it's called the L4 switch. There are two on the rear top of the transfer, it's the one to passenger. It also switches the CDL, so if unplugged will need the CDL switch and manually activate it. If you don't want to deal with that, could remove pin #9 (black/blue wire) on connector D at the ECU.

Do you need a 3FE instead?
