A few weeks ago, driving up a washboard road in northern WA, my power locks randomly started trying to lock the doors, as if someone kept pressing the lock button. This has randomly persisted since then. It doesn't happen all the time, but seems to come in waves.

My LC is a '92 HDJ81 imported from Japan. It came with a simple 2-button key fob that doesn't seem to work, so I've just been using the keys to operate the locks from the outside. I haven't yet taken apart the dash, but it seems like the remote lock system was added after the fact.

Has anyone ran into this issue before? Should I start with taking apart the drivers door, or trying to find the remote receiver?

This is the non-working fob. No brand mentioned on it.

I would guess it is door switch related. It is known that something a left turn will cause issues with some light based on door switches.

Also look under the driver's seat for alarm box. It's not factory, but there is a nice location there for it with cutouts in the carpet.

FYI, I think I fixed this issue over the weekend. There was a small circuit board inside the drivers door cavity that had been spliced into the Door Lock Control Relay. I assume that was the received for the remote. Doesn't look like it was an actual security system, and more just a remote lock/unlock system. Once I removed that, it seems to be working as normal.

Thanks for the help guys

Also take a look at the actual striker plate in the door jam, make sure it's tight. When I had an 80 I had a similar issue, I'd see the light around the keys light up on sharp right turns also... turns out the door was just a tiny bit loose, tightening that striker was the ticket. hth
