Give me some prices. I am looking for what you had to pay someone that is not a friend/brother in law and gave a special deal. I was going to do this myself, but I am feeling lazy right now and can probably get one of the local manufacturers to do it for me. Just want to make sure I am not overpaying.

Add to this what anyone paid to get their Cruiser Acid Dipped...hope you don't mind, but always good to know both price ranges :o

I took just the tub to a guy that does industrial sandblasting, he charged me a $100 bucks. but ask them to be careful because they are not use to blasting such thin metal. The local guys that specialize in auto blasting wanted around $300 (if i remember correctly)

$700 7 years ago and $1,100 1 year and half ago. Done in walnut, dont EVER do sand, EVER!!!

sand blast

I took my stuff locally they used a real fine sand. 150 for the frame and CLOVA 300 paint. 200 for the cowel and zinc primer 200 for hard top and zinc primer. 100 for misc stuff (hinges, motor stuff, rad support all little stuff)

500 for full rollcage/ tub/ all body panels and made sure they didn't miss a spot

SF bay area

$450 for the tub + 5pcs. (blasted) $495 for dipping tub only. 3 resto projects back I had the tub dipped. It is not holding up as well as the blasted ones are.

Was the prep the same as the blasted ones? I ask because alot of guys on classicbroncos are swearing that dipping is the way to go. My argument to them is that when you dip a tub it takes paint off of the ENTIRE body. That means all the places where metal is bare you need to remove the spotwelds to recoat or at least prime. That's bodywork 101. They say that media blasting is only 2 dimensional while dipping is 3D, but I say that's a good thing. At least if it didn't blow through during media blasting the prime/base/undercoat underneath is still doing its intended job. Just my 2 cents :grinpimp:

I paid $550 yesterday to have the body, fenders, soft door frames, runningboards, tool box cover, winsheild frame. It cost a lot more than it should have because of the lousy Hurculiner. I had removed about 80% of it with brake fluid and I had 95 percent of the paint removed with aircraft stripper so that the blasting woud be as light as possible. I will never ever hurculine a vehicle that I care about. Pain in the rear to remove!

I paid around $500 to have the fenders, hood, aprons, bib, bezel, bumper, gas tank cover, running boards, windsheild frame, air filter assembly, and other various parts. The guy charged around $165/hr, I couldn't believe it!!! He used a very fine black sand, is this going to be an issue?

I was so frustrated at the price, I am having some guy with a blast shop out of a box truck, do the rest. He is charging me $700 to do the body, frame, front doors, gas tank, and every other part that I could find. He is also going to pull the engine and soda blast it and the transmission as well. Not a bad price for all the work, I just hope he doesn't screw something up.

Once complete, I am going to take the majority of the interior parts to be powder coating. I am trying to decide if I should get the frame powder coated as well. What do you think +/-?

I agree with the Hurculiner, I had spent hours trying to get this stuff out, thinking that I would not be able to sand blast it out. I was about 95% complete, when the guy showed up to give me a quote, he told me to just leave the rest . . . thank you man.

So I got my FJ40 back from the "box truck blaster". I think I may be in some trouble, maybe you one of you cruiser heads can help!!!

The guy had told me he was going to pull the engine and soda blast it but he ended up taking short cuts and sand blasted everything on the frame, engine, tranny and all. It looks great but he did not do a very good job at sealing the engine, when I pulled the header and exhuast manifold the exhaust and intake ports were full of sand. He is telling me that it should be fine if I just blow and vacum each cylinder out. I think I should pull the head, change all the fluids and do a deep clean. Any other areas I should be conserned about? Every thread I have read since I had this blasted says "not" to blast the engine. DANG HELP!

May want to start your own separate thread on this but. . .
Sand in the cylinder is very BAD and will score the walls/rings - same thing for valve stems. Pulling the head and cleaning thoroughly would be best. Was the end of the header open when it was sent off to the blaster - how did the sand get in? A header block off plate would have worked well here if that were the case. Good luck with the cleanup.

The first thing you need to find out is if this guy has business insurance. Secondly, do you have any paperwork/estimate which stated that he was going to pull the motor on the agreed upon price? This will really help you out if you would have to go to court over this or prove to his insurance co. what was agreed upon. If not, it becomes his word against your word, but the fact still remains that even if you can't prove the motor was supposed to be pulled it should have been properly sealed off before the blasting started. As for cleaning the motor, take a ton of pics of its current condition with the sand residue etc. I would call him and tell him the situation. See what his attitude regarding your concern is.
