Oh, so that's what the DAC is for. Got it. Thanks, Mr T.

And don't worry about ALL the clank'n and clunk'n noises, it's just the way it works.
Although you'd swear something was breaking under there!

BTW, where are you in that photo? Looks kind of familiar.

I had used DAC once or twice before, either to test how it worked or just to use all the toys. I thought it was a fun novelty, but not really necessary. This was the first time I had a moment where I wasn't sure how things might have gone if I didn't have it. I was sliding down the shale with the steering wheel turned to follow the trail but I just kept going straight, understeering towards the edge. My old trucks without ABS might have ended up at the bottom of Silver Canyon outside of Bishop.

I got the idea to check this trail out from the Monache Meadows thread earlier this summer. If you can do Silver Canyon in a stock GX, than Monache is a piece of cake. We can settle that right now.

My wife was kind enough to text me a photo she took, since I had a white knuckle grip on the wheel for the steepest sections. Those two spots above were actually where it was shallow enough that I dared park and get out. This'll give a better idea of what we were dealing with. Real pucker factor in some places. The truck did great.

I'd been wanting to camp at the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest anyway (we got snowed out last year...) so thanks for introducing to me a fun way out that puts me actually closer to home.

My wife is absolutely scared to death of shelf roads AND if the shelf is on her side, especially ones like your picture! She'll just get out and walk the distance until it's wide enough or no shelf.

For what used to be $500-ish, now whatever in today's dollars, you should get Crawl Control. You can go slower downhill than with DAC, and use it on the uphills, too. Wait, what year is your rig?

Yeah, that and MTS have been on my to-do list since I got it. I'm more interested in MTS to be honest, but in this case CC would've been nice. Can't have too many toys either.

I have MTS and no CC. I need to pick up a CC module because I've seen it in action in a buddy's Tacoma and it can definitely get you out of a jam. MTS makes a noticeable difference in how ATRAC reacts, but in my limited use I haven't been able to figure out what the Loose Rock or Mogul modes do that isn't already covered by Mud/Sand or Rock mode.

I too have MTS, since it was the cheaper of the two and easiest to install. 😝
But I've been playing with the idea of using my existing console panel (2013 Premium edition, it already has DAC, selectable suspension, etc.) instead of purchasing the specific CC panel and using my existing switches for CC.
From what I under stand, all one really needs is a momentary on/off switch and a 5 selection switch or a switch you can bump up/down for selection. Then just use TechStream on my laptop to program and do the required driving to kick it in.

After installing both, I find CC more useful than MTS. 30% off at link above.

I'm the opposite, I've used MTS more than CC... really only have toyed with CC a bit, I'd rather do it myself if possible. I've found MTS does a good job modifying ATRAC responses to wheel spin appropriately in various terrain. Really worked well in deep snow (mud/sand setting). Good for loose rock hillclimbs too.

I've had MTS since 2021 and just ordered CC today. I think of MTS as a tool that you can use as-needed, possibly constantly, if you're offroad or in the snow. My favorite thing is when everyone else is messing with lockers and trying to pick lines I usually just stick it in rock mode and drive straight up the thing. I think of CC more as something to get you out of jam where you'd otherwise be stuck or have to start airing down, breaking out traction boards, etc. That's been my experience with it in my buddy's Tacoma.

I think they're both really solid mods since they're easy to do, they can make a huge difference, and the total cost is pretty cheap if you find them on sale.

I've looked and can't find any really good examples of MT and CC being used in each of the stated conditions.
I'd be nice to have a good video of how and when it is best to engage them.

CC will make you stick to nasty up and down hills. ATRAC (and MTS) require a minimum RPM to be effective. CC allows MUCH slower speeds. Granted, there are times you need to "send it", but depending on your conditions, I have found CC to have better results than manually attempting both climbs and descents. For the nominal price, TOTALLY worth it to have in your tool box. Take some time and play around with it to get to know when each can be best utilized.
