BTW, Steve - did you guys have the intake ported & polished? Yes, that engine looks very nice. Reminds me of when I saw the hi-po 2F.
Will your 3" exhaust have to follow the stock routing below the frame? How are you guys addressing the catalytic converters?
No we didnt port or polish. Because we are dynoing the engine with the new turbo, we want to show real results. We also didnt do lower compression pistons, or forged pistons. We want the turbo to be ran at 7 psi, so we will be dynoing it for that.
The exhaust will run the same as stock. We have done a 3 inch exhaust over the frame before, but its a really tight fit, and sometimes rattles. It usually only rattles in reverse, but we didnt want to sell a kit like that.
Reffug, our main goal with the new kit over the safari is durability. The safari kit is a great kit no doubt, but my boss has had to replace the wastegate twice over the years, and he also had to re-build the turbine. Our best reasoning for this is because the wastegate mounts to the turbine, and runs really hot.
My bosses 80 was the U.S. cruiser they designed and tested the safari kit on, so we have been down this whole path before. Overall, both kits are great, we just wanted to upgrade points we thought could be better. I expect the dyno results to be similar, so dont think your missing out. I know the big guy here will be more than happy to talk about the differences between the kit, I will also be posting new information as it arrives.
