Portal axle setup (1 Viewer)

That is a smoking deal for a set of axles that a person can truly say were engineered from the ground up for your landcruiser with lots of stength, 10x the brakes, and more clearance than you could dream of with a tipsy 6inch lift and 40's. But i am still wondering if you offer financing and if you sell complete packages with tires and wheels. I have a chance at rat holeing 200 bucks a month if i could get a ready to roll 40 setup. My wife will just wonder where our oldest daughter disappeared to.

Well here's how far I've gotten.

Even thought the Mog portals, rebuilt and cut to 61" cost "only" 5790.- a set with disk brakes, they will not clear my oil pan without lift and they require new drive shafts. So exit Mogs:frown:.

I allready have an Ranger O/D (1500.-) and the coresponding drive shaft (~500.-), So this leave me with

1. "basic" 303 + rebuild + resize + disk about 6000.-,ranger O/D 0.-, drive shafts 0.-, new portal gears $?
- I can always save some money by sticking to the original drum

2."Highway-frendlier" 303 + rebuild + resize + disk 6000.-, ranger O/D , new portal gears $? and rebuilt (no-core) NV4500 3300.- , new drive shafts 500.- (length!)

3. "basic" Portal-tek. My quote was for 9500.- (w. nothing extra and not 8500 ! - Russ, Scott?), lockers 1450.-, ranger o/d.

4. Stazwork - no answer yet but the web page has a starting price of 3680.- (for a stearable axle, I assume) + 3rd members $? + lockers 1450.-

5. (anybody ?)

There are probably deals out there I have not stumbled upon, so let me know, please.

Anyway, to resume, I can get it done for about 6k for basic 303s or spend almost twice that and there is always Orion or Atlas t/c to consider for even more flexibility.
hmm... Where to draw the line...
i talked to scott at portal tek. for over an hour today and given the chance i would defintly have gone with one of there sets . i have almost as much as there fully set up axles as i have in mine and at the end of the day they have a new and improved system so my vote goes to the portal teks

Thanks

Thanks y'all, with your help I have also come to the conclusion that the Portal-tek is probably the best set-up, especially in the long run. OK it is expensive but I think I wrote something about no compromise in a previous post

It has taken me a long time to put together alternate builds and quotes, not exactly confidence inspiring. I would need to get spare, etc.. to feel like I got a lasting solution.

Russel or Scott, can you tell me were to look for the proper rims with offsets. Manufacturer w. pics and stuff, if there a choice. Also, can you include them in a quote.

In that case, I'll pick some out, add it to the other option I'd like
and PM ya for a "final" quote. :D

Spanky,

You have a large variety when it comes to wheels, it is basically what you would like to run and what you are looking to do. If you would like total coverage of the portal box I would suggest having a set of wheels with 6.5" of backspacing made, but this is not required. Later model Toyota Tacoma, Sequoia, and Landcruiser wheels have a backspacing of somewhere between 4.5" to 5" which would work just fine as well.

On our website you will see a set of black beedlocks on portals. These wheels were made by Marsh Racing. They are 8 lug, 18" wheels with 6.5" of backspacing. Our portals offer three different lug patters; 5 on 5.5, 6 on 5.5 and 8 on 6.5. This will also give you more wheel options. As for wheel diameter anything from a 16" on up will work.

Let me know if you are looking for a custom set, with or without beadlocks and what diameter and width and I will be able to get you some numbers from Marsh. If you decide to go with a 16", please let me know the brand and style so I can make sure the inside diameter will be compatable.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks
Scott

Portal Tek is here in Utah - I bought my FJ62 front axle from russ and saw some of the different axles and prototypes they were working on at the time. Everything looked pretty damn top notch. Out of my price range but if you are willing to spend it I don't think you will have anything other than top quality as far as I can tell.

stopped by to see portal-teks new shop in colorado on my way to moab. ok so it was three hours out of the way but it was worth it. top notch machinery and fab work. even my wife was impressed and that is saying something. beautiful fab skills and everything looked like it grew in place. I put my name on the waiting list for the next set. these things are awesome. absolutely stunning.

Too Much Cash

Damn dude, I wish I had that kind of $$$$.

I've got a suggestion for a motor to spin the gears in those portals. Go buy a new Corvette and pull out the LS7 427. What's another 60-70K.

Can't wait to see it finished.
