Great truck......hope you heal up well. I wanted to remove and recurve the springs on my brothers '76 and of courses replace shackles/bushings....now I am a bit nervous about the project!!!
 
Don, Dick; I have luckily regain almost 100% of the use on my hand. Just a small limitation on flexibility on my middle finger, that does not affect me in anything I need to do. Just the cold affects the middle and ring finger, but that will hopefully get better with time.
tls3601, just make sure your support everything properly and you will be fine. I had four jack stands under the car, as well as a couple of jacks, I had the axle supported to the frame with a strap, just need one more strap to the leaf spring pack. The total length of the leaf spring that hit the ground was less than one inch, where my hand happened to be. Next on the to do list is getting welded still rims (currently it has riveted rims with spacers), removing the spacers and putting on new shoes, 33x10.5x15.
 
Ok, I have made a little more progress on the Troopy. My driver's side door lock had stopped locking, and my Key would fall off the ignition when driving, so I got new cylinder locks, gas cap lock and ignition cylinder with matching key thanks to Racer65, great guy to communicate with. Next will be upgrading the headlights with Racer65's LEDs.

Also got new rims (welded steel rims) from Cruiser Outfitters, Light sanding, grey paint and had BFG's AT 33x10.5x15 mounted on them. Much nicer ride from my old hard rotted tires.

Well, my son and I decided to start looking into redoing the interior of the Troopy. The plan is to temporarily patch floor rust, do the camper interior and underside (water tanks, water pumps, propane lines, etc...) and in the future (a few years) take it apart and do the body. One problem we have, is that it leaks when it rains, it leaks a LOT. So off came the roof to be able to have the canvas part of the pop top redone, and to replace the rusty rain gutter and corresponding seals.

Now the challenge is finding a rain gutter for a Troopy, SOR has a fiberglass gutter for a Troopy, but is pick up only. CCOT has metal gutters for the 40, but not for the Troopy. I have e-mailed them to see if they can help with making longer pieces or supplying extra pieces and adjusting on my end. If that does not work, it looks like I will need learn to fabricate the parts, by following some of the threads here. The rain gutter is more than I was expecting to do at this time, but we could not re-do the interior if we had water leaks. So, here we are. We also have rust on the upper side panels (posts right behind the doors), the posts that the doors close against. We will need to get this rust fixed. Either we buy a welder and learn to make the parts or we have it done. I have not decided yet. Probably not the right location to start learning to weld and make parts. Will post photos of this area later, just noticed I don't have any with me.

have you thought of mud ship for the gutters. I live in the center of cali and drive to L.a. often could get them here. If you find some one going north we could move them along towards you. Have done this in the past with a gas tank
 
Hmm, I had not thought about Mud Ship. My concern would be that it is a large flimsy (fragile) item, but will look into it. Thanks for the suggestion sfd60.
 
You should be able to buy a metal 40 gutter , take it to a local welding/fab shop and I'd bet they could fill in the added length for the Troopy .
Just requires having a good sized press brake and a narrow-foot bottom plate to make that shape , which many have and can handle easily .

So, I'm slowly getting closer to eventually putting the roof back on. Yesterday I received the gutter kit from CCOT, this week I should be getting the roof gasket from City Racer. As my cruiser is a Troopy, I will be having to use two roof gaskets to form one longer one. Are there any recommendations on what to put where the seats butt together to avoid leaking? Was thinking of using what they use when installing windshields on car, that black soft "calk" type stuff. I remember seeing something here on Mud about it, but did a search and can't find it now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Start by gluing the pieces together with good quality rubber cement . A bit of The Right Stuff from Permatex can help in tacking it to the metal and sealing any imperfections . I've had to do this in the past with making sections of old gasket work with new sections on old iron - works fine and holds up for many years ...

Ok,
So while I continue to work on the roof, roof gutter, interior, etc... I'm trying to figure out a location for a second battery in the engine bay. But it is very tight in there. See attached photos. I have searched for photos of RHD FJ4X with dual battery set ups and there are not many out there. One that I found, did not appear to have the power steering pump located where mine is. The brake booster system is on the way compared to the LHD models.

I'm looking at a couple of options, one is to rotate the existing battery sideways, and add a second battery towards the back (firewall), but this will reduce access to the oil filter and distributor.

Another option I was thinking off is to replace my current air filter with maybe a US version that goes over the valve cover and freeing up space where the existing air filter is.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. Photos of RHD engine bays with dual battery setups are also welcomed.

Slow progress, but is progress.
Got a welder for father's day.
Watched a couple of youtube videos and taught myself to weld. So I proceeded to weld the roof gutter. Managed to get it primed and painted.
Next is to rivet it to the fiber roof and new headliner. After that is to re-assemble the pop-top part of the roof.
The gutter has 2 extra straight pieces (one each side) from a 40 gutter + about 5" of my old gutter that I managed to save, to make up for the Troopy length.
CCOT shipped me 2 extra straight pieces to accommodate part of the Troopy length.

Making great progress! While you have the roof off, could you take some detailed pictures of the pop top?
I am curious as to how it is supported.
