Rustic, I'm sorry, somehow I missed your comment before we left on our trip and completely disconnected from the word :).
We do carry a spare tire, it's under the car in the factory location. It is a 33x9.5 spare mounted on a factory rim and if fits a bit tighter, but fits fine. I don't see why a 33x10.5 would not fit as well.
Eventually we are looking a adding a 4Plus rear bumper with a second spare. Also, the spare from the trailer fits the troopy, although it is a smaller diameter tire, they are Toyota rims.

Trip wen't great, will do a write up soon.

So this year for the holidays (it was also our 20 year wedding anniversary), my wife and I decided that we needed to do something different. So we purchased a little teardrop trailer as our 20 year anniversary gift to each other, loaded up the kids and camping gear and headed south. 3,750 miles and two weeks later we made it back home. We went to Baja California in Mexico, only about half way down (Bahia de los Angeles) do to time. But we had a great experience and the kids got to see and learn a lot. We felt very safe the entire time and although the weather was not all that warm (low to mid 60s) it was a lot warmer that it was at home. Got back to -15 deg F this morning. The Troopy performed great, as did the little trailer (Very well built, it handled the rough roads great, and weights 700 lbs empty). Our cruising speed was between 60 and 65 miles per hour, and that was when fully loaded with all 4 of us, trailer, camping gear, paddle board and about 600lbs of fuel and water.

Below are a bunch of photos. Thanks for following along.

The only problem we had, was the driver's side door handle broke and I could no longer open the door from the outside. Nothing a bit of bailing wire could not fix. Just pull from the loop and open the door.
The Little trailer is from Vintage Overland, based out of Grand Junction, CO. Basically hand made by three brothers, incredible quality and attention to detail, they have a few different models. As you can see we took the road less travel when possible.

Thanks for sharing gmac. Sounds like an amazing trip.

Do you have a rough idea of the interior dimensions in the troopy behind the seats? I have never seen one in person and was trying to visualize how much space you have to work with.

Very cool to make that trip, even if it was just two weeks. It's easy to put off expedition trips by saying "there's not enough time", but it sounds like you squeezed every second of fun out of the time you did have. Awesome!

Just found your thread.
Great troopy and nice Baja pics gmac.:)

We made this trip in the nintees started in Tijuana and drove the whole way down to Cabo San Lucas nice nice nice :)

Cheers Peter

SportsmanJake, don't quote me on this, but the total length is something like 7.5 ft. From the front seats back, it's about twice as long as an 40, plus 4 inches.

I agree Jetlander, there is always an excuse to postpone things, the Troopy was not even close to how I wanted to have it, but we did not want to wait till everything is perfect, because then it will never happen. My son will be heading to college in a bit over 2 years, we want to create as many memories as possible before he is "too cool" for his parents. :).

What a sweet trip. I give you and your family a lot of credit for taking on the adventures that you all do. Love the pics...keep em coming.

I was looking back at your thread and hadn't realized you troopy is a 2F. I cringe to think of your fuel bill for the trip:eek:.

Yea, a diesel would be much better. But the 2F is what we have. On the trip to Vancouver Island and back through Canada we averaged in the mid 12s. Not too bad. To Baja, pulling the trailer, I never checked. Did not want to know. Also, we had lots of hills and wind.

Well, it been a bit since I posted on this thread, since the last time, we have done a couple of trips to Moab. One last June in 2017, with my son and a friend of his, and one was a solo trip to Furita, CO and Moab, for some mountain biking. Below is the only good photo I have from the June trip.

For my trip from last week, I took the time to stop by the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in Salt Lake City, where I got a very cool tour with tons of information, but not until I was finished replacing the muffler in the O'Reilys Parking lot, after it cracked on the way from Bozeman, MT to Salt Lake. From there I made it to Fruita, CO for a day of Mountain Biking and the next day to Moab for a few long days on the bike and camping on the white rim trail. Below are a few photos.

Sorry I am late to this conversation!! You have done a great job consistently!!! Love all the troopy photos! Vintage Overland is in my town and I have to say to everyone considering them, they have a phenomenal product. In addition, oddly enough, I have never heard of anything bad about their trailers. Id love to take a look at your troopy in person if you ever come back through Grand Junction, CO. I'll even buy you a beer for stopping by ;) Keep up the good work!
