I have been living with a 'pop' in my front suspension for a while now. It is definitely getting worse. I rarely ever start a thread on Mud, even though I have been an active member since 2006. So, I am saying that I have searched but can't seem to find the exact noise/sound/circumstances on other strange noise threads.

My 'pop' sound only happens when I come to a complete stop abruptly. And, if I get the 'pop' upon coming to a complete stop abruptly, then I know I am going to get the 'pop' again when I accelerate again. Since this is the only time I get the 'pop', I can drive 'guarded' and keep it from popping most times. I just have to brake carefully and try not to come to a complete stop too abruptly.

I put new upper and lower ball joints in thinking it was that. Didn't fix my problem. After that, I took it to a friends shop and he put it on a lift and said that he was finally able to replicate the sound by putting a large pry bar between the driver side LCA and where it attaches to the frame(?) (or center diff). He said the movement was towards the rear of the LCA. I wasn't there when he replicated the noise so I didn't get to see and he knows I like to do my own work. He did not tear into it.He just told me that is where he feels like the noise is coming from.

I am guessing there are bushings where the LCA attaches to the frame since it would need to pivot at that attachment point. Are the bushings part of the LCA or part of the frame? Is there any threads or diagrams posted any where that show what to expect when I get in there. I would like to have the parts on hand whenever I start this procedure so that my truck doesn't have to sit while I wait on parts.

The closest thread I found to my symptom was https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/alignment-questions-and-binding-noise-help.561560/. Mxndrnks mentions it in several different posts throughout that thread but I don't read where the 'pop' was ever definitively solved.

Thanks in advance for recommendations.

I have a popping coming from the front left when turning sharply to the right - haven't investigated yet but it is consistent in that I pretty much know it's going to happen before it does.

Copenhagen1: If you/your mechanic truly think the frame side front LCA bushings are loose/worn out you can read about my R&R starting here: #468

FWIW I was relatively certain mine were worn out but after I got it all stripped down I realized it was just my fertile imagination at work:rolleyes: as they were fine (220k+ miles on the rig when I swapped them out). Its not really a bad job if you just go straight to the sawzal approach from the get-go.

@Mxndrnks ... Thanks for replying Johnathan. I am guessing you have aftermarket skid plates? Mine is still just the factory plastic and I don't think it could make a noise like I am hearing. The link you provided is very helpful with that parts diagram.

@spressomon ... That link is very helpful also. My truck has 220k miles as well. Did you have a symptom you were trying to fix by replacing that bushing? I am chasing this 'pop' and I already replaced upper and lower ball joints that, on hindsight, were probably not worn out. That No. 2 bushing is in the general area where my mechanic friend said that he got the sound to replicate with a pry bar.

No I wasn't chasing a noise but a slight loss of steering precision. Checked the shocks & all anti-sway bar hardware? Engine mounts? Sliders rubbing on body (had that problem once).

I'd also check your rear LCA and UCA bushings for mounting hardware tightness along with bushing wear. They, especially the UCA bushings, seem to have a life of ~ 150k miles...

Anything is possible, however the frame mounted LCA bushing is rubber (center bushing is steel along with outer) and I don't think you would get a "pop" as you described if it was completely worn.
