seems my coolant heater isn't very effective at covecting/percolating the water through the block, only a small portion at the back of the 12ht is getting heated.
On the little 2lt engine its working fine, but its all the way down at the frame rail, on the 12ht it sits level with the oil cooler.
The heater element is from Defa 600w at 220v with thermostat.

I used a fitting by the oil pressure sender, at oil cooler. the heater should draw water from there, and it rises up to the very rear of the engine, t-ed into the heater hose going from the underseat heater into the top of the head, (under seat heater is swithced off) where the standing "coolant" 4 inch tall "nut" leads the water into the head.
Any better ways of hooking that up? better locations?

edit: adding that the element is type da411715, see it here:
Slangvärmare 411715 - Laitis AB

Mine was installed this way.Worked fine.

Both of my Cruisers has a Defa 750W units plumbed similarly.
The lower hose is t-ed to a lower radiator hose and the other is t-ed to rear heater hose.
Pics will tell more than 1000 words.

Thanks y'all for the information. I need to find something like this in the US. My FJ60 /12HT conversion lives in the very cold winter and I need this.

Look up Espar or Webasto coolant heater install on search. I know S Dakota and it’s the best way
to go. I’ve installed an older Webasto TSL-17

they are more expensive for sure but man are they nice to have. i have a thermotop c with a timer. -40 starts are no troubles

this was 30 seconds after starting it just a few days ago in -25 weather

Thermo Top Evo

you can mount it directly below your wiper motor on the firewall. I would recommend you have
hot coolant outlet directly to engine first, cool inlet from cabin heater return line. Heat the engine first.
It has to be mounted or installed lower than the highest point of system.
I inserted a Tee fitting just below 20 cm or so prior to injection pump inlet.

just for further evidence e these webasto are awesome it’s -40 (-50C with wind chill) here today. 45 min after starting the webasto it fired up with no hesitation and i have warm air immediately. here’s the temp gauge 30 seconds of running

@franklin40 what oil are you running in the winter? We are in northern BC and don’t see temps that cold. -25 would be very cold for here. I usually run a lighter winter oil in mine. Does the webasto change this for you?

-50 is cold. Reminds me of my days in northern Ontario.

South Dakota hits -40 on a regular in the 🥶❄️🥶

i run 15 40 most of the year. i have an oil pan heater on as well i keep plugged in on these cold days so that at least get it a little more liquid before i start it up. i probably should run a lighter weight in the winter in these temps.

thankfully we only see a couple weeks a year of this cold. most of the time we’re -20 n the winter. apparently we have an average yearly temp in saskatchewan of +3!!

Thanks for the info, I just plumbed in a new Webasto and think I’ll just go back to 15/40 and see. With no heat it was a bitch to start on cold mornings, not to mention fealt bad for the poor old thing. Excited for the webasto to say the least.

Are you running a timer or a switch?

i have a timer. it’s so good. i set it for an hour before i’m done work and it’s ready when i head home. i park outside too but am plugged in

Sounds like a good setup. Will look into one. Just on a simple switch at the moment. Thank you for the info
