I know I'm in the minority here but I just hate automatics and V6s. Please oh please make a 5 speed 4 cyl!!!

I years ago called Toyota USA for customer service and in ending the conversation I asked why Toyota doesn't import Land Cruisers with manual transmissions? The response (sic) "...our research has shown that 100% of vehicles sold were automatics, so we go with what our customers are buying..."

Well no $%^& Shirlock you only every sold them that way. What do your statistics show for 1986?

Hmm...well I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that maybe a V6 with a 5sp (or 6sp like the Tacoma has) would be even better than a 4cyl 5sp.. :D

My guess is it will only be offered in a automatic to start, I think the emissions and such is easier in an automatic (don't really know though). And with a new vehicle, a auto definetly is less fitment, less linkage, between body and drivetrain, course a automatic is more electronics to interface to for the computer...who knows. I just hope that if it's based off the Tacoma, the new Tacoma has a V6 with a 6 sp manual, and that would be cool!

Petrol is old school. 6cyl turbo diesel with a 5 speed would be the hot ticket...

I asked toyota about diesels, and none are planned. nice dream though.
For the FJ, or in general, what did toyota have to say about the specs for the FJ Cruiser? This isn't the same toyota that admits we know more about the FJ then they do, is it? :D

Of course diesel w/ manual tranny would be tops, but let's be realistic. Toyota simply isn't going to give us everything we want...just hoping I get some inline engine and some manual tranny.

Actually for this thing a P-series 5cyl turbo diesel would be choice.

no 4cyl, 4.0v6 w/ auto or 6 speed

Yea. I have had an 82 PU with a 4sp. for 10 years. 5 speed would be realy nice. However, My 85 cruiser would be way too heavy for a 4banger. I have not expeirienced speed or aaceleration problems that many complain about with my 60. mpg seems normal at 15 [ but of course that sucks] I don't commute so Its only a problem for road trips. My wifes old subaru does OK in that department. Also did well going over the searras in the snow, where I saw suv's in the ditch. And a guy with a 4wd silverado pulling them out.

Why would you want a I4? The V6 is smoother, and has more power. I don't think the fuel economy would be all that much better with a I4, given the weight of the truck.

Same thing with the 5 speed..what for? You have a six speed available which is better in every way.

Maybe you really want an H3 - inline 5, and a 5 speed manual.
