I have a 2.5OME going on next week...now for tires

Can't decide between
285/75-16 cooper ST MAXX (have had this tire on another truck and loved them

Or 295's in the toyo or nitto

If cooper made the ST Maxx in 295's it would make my life a lot easier...

If you have pics of your rig with your choice please post

295 Toyo AT 2 Extremes
(pre running sliders)

Pros: fairly quiet, good traction, good tread life, good puncture resistance, semi-aggressive good looks
Cons: E range, don't look as cool as M/Ts

I've had BFG ATs on everything I've owned, up until my 100. I tried Duratracs on my diesel, but they were loud, and the tire compound was fairly soft and wore down quickly. I wanted to try something comparable to the BFGs, so my buddy in the tire business turned me on to the Toyos. I liked them so much on my truck, I decided to get the same tires for my Cruiser when I got it.

Here is mine with 315/75/16 Toyo at2 extreme. So far I have been very pleased! I have mostly run mud tires but wanted something a little more road friendly and these seam to be a good compromise of off and on road performance. I think you had mentioned you were in grass valley? I have found less schwab to be the best at balancing larger tires here. I have had nothing but problems at Americas tire. One thing I have found is the les schwab in auburn will beat Americas tire prices but the grass valley one won't. I buy from auburn and then I can get my free rotations and balance done in grass valley. I think when I bought mine it was about $500 cheaper in auburn than grass valley.

Sent another. Let me know if you get it.

My vote for goes for the toyo at2 extreme. Love this tire even though it has some hum on the highway at 50- 65 mph. As Willie Beaming said roll the windows up and turn on some tunes.

Snow, ice and mud are all in this tires sphere. No tire is perfect for every situation but this one is close. To he!! with the gas mileage:), you are driving a Land Cruiser.

Don't worry about the tire weight unless you are maxxed out with bumpers and fully loaded expedition rig.

Thanks for the info!! And yes good gas mileage is WAY over rated :)

Forgot one other important tidbit. These tires balance with small amounts of weight. My tires weigh 58 lbs. each. They balanced with one ounce or less on all four.
Your experience may vary as the lawyer talk goes.

^^Yes that concerned me from the start. Left the soft ride michelins behind and knew it would no longer ride like a
Caddie unless it was on new asphalt pavement. I also need better shocks up front because mine are factory now. Ready for new ones long ago.

The increased tire weight and stiffness are not a bad tradeoff for what I needed in bad weather and offroad.

I have had both the Nitto and Toyos. Toyos were very good, but they are heavy, and I thought rode a good bit rougher.

For a tire that does well off road, but with very good road manners, the Nitto has been tough to beat.

@benc are you running spacers? Can you share your hub to fender measurements? I want to run 315/75-16 also but keep backing off with all the rubbing everywhere talk. I'm ok bending sheet metal in the wheel wells/firewall and rolling the fender lip too.

1 1/4" spacers I believe. The only rubbing I have is on the front inner fender at full bump. Not much and has never hurt anything. No rubbing in the rear. I'll have to check that measurement but I think In running about 2" of lift

Benc:
1.25 spacers on the front only? Or same on the rear?

Another consideration is cost. I bought Falken Wild peak AT 2 in 285 and they have turned out to be a great tire. Excellent on road manners and off road I have been impressed. The installer said they have the thickest sidewall he has seen....

They were $136 per tire at America's tire.

I said go with 295 as that is what I had before in BFG AT and I thought they looked better although the truck was a tad more sluggish.
