Hey Guys

How many of you kept the plastic engine cover on the engine?

I dont see it serving a purpose, if anything, i would imagine a SLIGHT improvement in cooling, probably barely any.

Did ya ditch it or keep it?

I did a search and didnt find much.

I say it's a pity not to be able to see such a gorgeous engine... :)

I am sure they spend some money and put it there for a reason. I would say Yeah. Atleast it looks nice

Gets in the way of my hand throttle...plus it looks dorky on anything but a mall crawler :flipoff2:. Same opinion on the plastic hub covers!

i loved mine till it started to rattle on something and one of the bolts was stripped out on a mount. I ripped it off and broke it in the process. Now it sits in the garage. I like the intake manifold.

I believe mine is rattling now too, so I was considering removal. But it does look good when you open the hood. My 4Runner has a much smaller one that covers only the front half of the intake. Just enough to say 4.7 Liter, or something like that.

Nah. I pulled mine and the brackets off years ago.

Thats the cover i want!

Spress cruises the Summit Sierra with his hood up. :D

I figured my comments would rattle someone's cage :D.

Hey Mac...how do you know about Summit Sierra? Better not tell us you've been there without checking in for a beer t'gther!

I leave it on because it keeps some dust off the top of the engine/intake/etc.

Heat: It may actually help retain a slight amount of engine heat after shutdown, which would help in winter (but not help in summer). It might also help the engine warm up in winter a wee bit faster. (But only a very slight - maybe negligible - effect, in both circumstances.)

Mine started to rattle, found it rattling against a bit of wiring harness that I left too close to LH cover edge (when buttoning up the starter replacement job). Pulled wire bundle away & anchor-tied it, that stopped the rattle.

I googled it... :o I'm stalking you.

Believe me, if I was up your way, I'd love to have you show me some wheeling around there!

I removed mine today. I am trying to track down a reviberation noise and this may it. I thought it was cat covers however they were tight. I added clamps anyway.
