Does it make a difference which way the pistons are installed in the block on a 2F? Looking at the FSM fig 3-162 and fig 3-160 clearly show the notch on the piston being installed toward the front, but the note beside fig 3-162 states install facing the rear. WTF over? Would it make a difference if they were installed with the notch facing the rear? I would guess it has more to do with oil flow to the con rod bearings more than anything.

Wow, I don't know what I did the other night, but I have the oil hole on the correct side but have the notch facing the rear. Looks like I assembled the piston and rod bassackwards.

Too many buds (either liquid or green) is my guess :smokin: :D

At least you found it before the engine disassembled itself.

FWIW, I pulled a 2F outta a late 60 with a rebuild in it and found the pistons backwards like that. Most of the rings were broken. :meh: I did not rebuild it. I let MAFs pro do it. I mean the new, correct rebuild that I'm running now...

I don't think I tossed any cold ones back that evening (at least not beyond the normal) it just sucks I spent all that time and have to go back to redo it. Hell, I was about to bolt the head down tonight and just wanted to double check my work when I noticed what I did. 2 steps forward 3 steps back........
