I messed around with this all day yesterday, mostly because I had no idea on any mount depth issues.
From the pictures you can see that it's about 1/2" out. I've ordered ring spacers to fill. I had a shallow mount kenwood in there before.

Space is tight, the pioneer needs about 7.75 or so inches of depth. A 90 degree (left or right) adapter may help someone save a 1/8" (unsure) For the USB A plug, rear mount.
This is a custom fit no doubt. You'd need a drill and dremel to cut plastic, drill two new holes in the side OEM DIN metal brackets. In the end though it's worth it.
In the pic it's the smaller hole of the three where they are grouped together in a triangle.

At this point I don't believe there is adapter harness either. You need power, ACC, the TX wires (two) for the resistor, and the steering wheel control wires (three) for the control module. Metra Axxess ASWC-1
If your using existing speaker wires you need those to. I'm not, just RCAs and amps for me. The famous pioneer brake wire bypass also, $9 amazon. So there are even more wires to deal with.
Over all it's fairly simple, But you need to go slow. I'm not an expert, I've installed maybe 30 stereos in my lifetime.
My last word on grounds, nothing in the dash is good enough. The one under the pass seat forward of the NAV housing unit is the best. I ran one line to that ground bolt and jumpered everything to there from behind the stereo/under the shifter trim.
(another reason I wouldn't use the toyota speaker wiring at the OEM connecting plug)

I had a thread with the other deck install a while ago, and the resistor thing etc.
68 ohm resistor to replace stereo on NAV equipped LC and LX

This is as far as this deck will mount, regarding depth. The good part of that is that it's perfect for the screen tilting. Honestly It's very good from the drivers seat. It clears the shift knob just fine and it doesn't get in the way of anything. You can mount the USB and 3.5 plug anywhere you want. Mine is in the shifter trim cover. Don't order blue sea USB combo mounts. They won't charge your tablets (mostly) Their center pins aren't grounded so they won't charge certain things. Just be careful what you use, read the reviews.

Two things that piss me off, pioneers final trim ring needs the cage/sleeve to attach itself to. That means the cage/sleeve has to be just behind the final finish ring from pioneer. Thats why you have to pop two holes in the side toyota brackets.
Second, Someone needs to make an oval-ish drop in faceplate to replace the face of the stock LC radio. WITH a 2 1/8" X 7" rectanglar hole with a flush, flat face. Oh, and add a 1/2" lip on the mounting face, since I'm asking for the moon an all.

I'm not done with the front of it. I'm waiting on metra/kenwood spacers and trim. Pics to follow.

5/8" gap to close up, that other ring on there is garbage. I'll end up using two different spacers that won't cover the lower HVAC buttons. The deck itself requires 1.5" due to the screen flip. The other gap is because of the space behind it is so small.

@jerryb Thanks for having the gonads to pull this off. I was considering something similar to this and am happy it can be done.

I was considering the Sony-RSXGS9 but with more depth required (per specs) than your pioneer I'll reconsider my options.

Thanks again for sharing

I don't know how I'd mount another screen with that SERIOUS Sony. I was trying to stay cheap. It came in under 950$ JL and fosgate class D's, just good enough speakers and a punch 10" boxed. Even cheaper with a kenwood shallow mount media player.
I think I found the perfect face trim for pioneers backwards mounting system. I'll keep this updated until I finish.
Thanks
