Is it possible to not connect the power antenna remote turn on wire and just use the stock antenna up down dash control switch? I don't need the antenna going up and down all the time and I'm fine just manually putting the antenna up on the occasions I actually listen to the radio.

You should be able to. You could wire the ON power to a switch or ACC and should work as you want. Might want to put the on power to a switch so you can get it all the way down for car wash.

So the real problem is the antenna sticks up a bit when using the stock up down rocker switch to retract it? I wonder why...

I don't think its a problem, it's just the lowest you can get the antenna when the motor is getting the "on" signal. It retracts all the way when the head unit is off. If you want it all the way down with the headunit on, you need a work-around.

I keep my antenna low when not using FM, and turn the headunit off when going through car washes.

Sorry, wiring to ACC alone won't help you. It was early this morning, don't know what I was thinking.

I just put this head unit in my truck yesterday. the only way it would power on is if i hook both yellows and both reds all together. ( HU wiring harness to adapter for my truck) but now i have no memory on my HU. any help?

If you have the correct Metra 70-8113 and a Pioneer, keep the blues together and the reds together. It took me a bit to figure out what the experts were saying, but 2 blues from the Metra (Blue and Blue/White) connect to the one Blue from the Pioneer harness. Since you are doing 2 things, powering the Amp and powering the Antenna with one line. Once you connect these, the Factory antenna switch works to lower the antenna when not on FM radio - almost all the way down as others posted. Thanks all all these posts, I am fully functional with a AVH-X5600BHS, refurbished is a great value.
Caution: eBay sellers are selling fake 70-8113's out there. Go to Metraonline and look at the picture of the one you need before purchasing.

Bucfl, I assume you are asking about Pioneer AVH-X5600, you can ad GPS, but it's not standard. Even the back up camera is separate.

I just went with the funds available to start with. had a single din unit in there a while back and hated it, plus back then I could not use the rear speakers as the Metra harness did not have the amp adapters, now they do (again on a budget). for under $300, I am very happy.

Another lesson learned, I could not find what the Metra Black with White stripe was, finally found it, it's the AMP ground. All hissing noise gone!

Not that I will use this, but I wired a regular plain switch to the parking brake Green and a separate ground, walla - bypass switch. plus I can hide it from my new driver son...the bypass works all the time - eeks.
