Put these in the hundy recently. Products recommended and sourced by a long time custom car audio friend. He did the install too as I had done some design work for him in trade. He now runs his own car audio business by himself. Just thought I'd share since I haven't seen a lot of people on here sharing product specific info.

The AVH-4200 is just a great receiver. My first DVD capable and touch screen setup. The menus are very easy to navigate and it has tons of great features.

These headrest monitors are full replacement headrests. They each have a built in DVD player, wireless headphones, and a few inputs. The way it was wired up allows me to fully control what is on each monitor. They are not quite a perfect match for the OE seats, but I hardly notice it. The texture is off more, the color isn't off as bad as the pics show.

Another peice I added is a WD 320 GB external hard drive. It runs off off the usb input in the glove box to the unit. So I can play all my music, books, videos, etc. quickly and easily. This was the icing on the cake.

Couldn't be happier with the result, love using this touch screen unit, and the kids couldn't be happier on long trips now!

Thanks - Jon

Looks good. I like the portable hard drive. I got the Pioneer 710

I have similar headrest monitors. Cant remember what brand but the :princess: has complained about the headrest being to far back and not having enought support when she wants to put her head back and sleep on long trips. There is about a 1.5" difference from the stock headrests.

Since she mentioned it, I have been wondering about the affect the headrests beging farther back would have to whiplash in an accident. :bang:

In the meantime I just got her a littel pillow to put on the front of the headrest when she wants to sleep. Have been thinking about tring to bend the posts back a little to move them up. :meh:

I just put a 3200 in my LX470 and have a 3GB thumb drive hanging out the front of my deck as it has a front mount USB port....never thought about using my little external USB hard drive...mmm...I could put movies and more on that. :)

exactly! ;)

Shop carefully though. A lot of external HDs require seperate power from just the USB. You need to find one that does it all from the USB. If you want specifics on my HD, lmk.

Help the Newb, please

Digging up an old thread:

I am about to purchase the Pioneer 4300 (newer version of the unit discussed). I have no experience with car audio, but I think I can figure this out, with a little guidance.
If I go with amp-bypass offered on Crutchfield, do I need the wiring harness? Or should I just go with Wiring Harness and use the factory amp? Probably ordering from amazon ( $399). Amazon.com: Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD 7" In-Dash Double-DIN DVD AV Receiver with iPod/iPhone Control, Pandora: Automotive
I appreciate any advice.

I'm not sure but Crutchfield could answer that. One thing I will let you know about. I just put the Pioneer Avic-x930BT in my 100 and I have a good bit of noise. It is coming from the factory amp. Had put filters on and it helped but there is still a good bit of noise. When I chunk the factory amp and replace it with my ARC audio amp all of that will go away. Just want to give you a heads up of the noise issue.

fyi... my factory amp was missing and to be honest I think I have read people saying to bypass the factory amp with any aftermarket HU... also I am not sure if the harnesses you buy actually work correctly as on the one I got I had to pull a couple of the wires and move to find the right power source etc.. but that may have been due to having no amp.

is my thread on my install of the avh-p3400bt

System looks great! I've been wanting to replace my deck as well and finally went in to do it this weekend only to find a rats nest of destroyed factory connectors, courtesy of the po... so now it's beyond my abilities for a clean install.

As for the WD Passport, I can't recommend those drives enough I've had two over the past 6 years and I only got the second cause the first one was stolen from me.
