Have a 79 FJ40, when I pulled the rear end apart, there was no pinion bearing shim. How am I to determine how thick of a shim I need?

I am only replacing the bearings and using the ring and pinion that were in there.

Thanks

I will add that we did not have a crush sleeve, when I took it apart.

It appears that I have the pinion on the right, slight difference. Will I still need the crush bushing?

No crush bushing required.

As far as shims go, you will need to install the bearing and then pattern the gears to check contact pattern to determine if shims are required.
