Sounds like an epic adventure...

for me..

Ring... Ring... Hello. Hi Tony, this is Tina, is Ross with you?

I'm thinking 'OH, he must have been going up or down the I80 corridor and noted to Tina about possibly stopping by and visiting. How cool is that'. Then notes about life flight, search and rescue, etc. Make no mistake, Tina sounded pretty concerned for her husband who was snowbound and lost... and in tennis shoes.

Glad everything worked out and I look forward to reading about it in the newsletter!

so now we have Mudrak snowbound on the Rubicon, Stolpa... I mean Stainer snowbound in the Sierra, and now Woody snowbound on Hull Mtn. Maybe you folks need some back country survival training.

Don't the three mentioned have back country training or something like that.

Wilderness first aid training for Mudrak and myself (along with Paul Decker). I'm not sure if BK has any other training or not.

Wilderness survival was a Boy Scout thing, but the Wilderness First Aid was created by Red Cross with Boy Scouts.

As a friend told me, it must not have been too bad if I didn't make the news. But who knows what would have been different if I didn't have cell coverage. I'm pretty sure I still would have spent the night, and I probably could have gotten out of the snow with a fresh start in the morning, but I don't know who would have been called had I not reached Tina.

I'm going to work on a list of things I think I did wrong, as well as things I think we need to do when we have organized runs.

First thing is you shouldn't have taken John back down the mountain by yourself. Then you wouldn't have been alone trying to catch up to the group.

Not to mention the cardinal rule when headed into the back country,
MAKE SURE SOMEONE ELSE IS AWARE OF YOUR PLAN, ITENARARY, AND ROUTE...
Something about not wheelin alone rings a bell.
I felt obligated to at least try and fetch Ross regardless of situation because he had towed my broke down arse off the mountain. It was a scary thing sliding backwards with Max in the rig, and being hooked to Ross with Max safe in the FJC sure did help my day so I was just returning the favor.

Ross,
Make sure if you make a list to add what you did right.
Staying with your vehicle
You new your general area so you could tell someone where to come and help you get unstuck.
Knowing when to stop instead of pushing your rig to you broke something or you got hurt
Not panicing
Keeping a sense a humor. The post on mud reflects that.

Okay saftey guy says good job staying with the vehicle Ross! Bad job wheeling by yourself. Besides the obvious thing of the what Ross did wrong list. Is what Ross did right. And thats having such a bad ass club willing to do search and rescue/ sleep in vehicles/ share quality fart time (I can't quit you!)/ hike/ shovel/ hike some more/ and not quit till the job is done. Way to go guys! By the way I would like the guys who responded to put in the miles from their warm couches to the rescue location for the next time you think your buddy is stuck too far from you. Always glad to be PMC, sorry I wasn't here to help you myself. Was stuck in Idaho in the snow, with more than one rig for record. Glad to hear the outcome was positive on the Woody snow run.

John - as you know, I did let someone (you) know where I was going. Unfortunately, I didn't get to where I was suppose to go.

Dave - I think a lot of what went right was based on other people's experiences. It also helped that I had gone to the wilderness first aid training, which emphasized staying with the vehicle, and getting dry if wet.

James - I'm very happy that the guys came out to get me. While I may have been able to free myself by myself, knowing that they were coming let me feel comfortable running the FJ to stay warm.

I started a thread for everyone to contribute to regarding run improvements
