Yes Don I'll be there either riding with Roger or be driving the pick-up. The new project is still a way's from driving.
See Ya then - Tim

Hope you get home soon! Didn't know that you were spending the night or I would have brought my
tent and camped out with you. Hope those 30k seats are fun to sleep in. By the way are they heated?

Big Jim and I are home safe...Ross, Dion and John should be into Sonoma co. by now. What a great trip. The Cruiser Gods sure had fun with Ross, nobody could get cell service where he was stuck (or any where else on the whole trail) but Ross is giving weather reports at 10:30 at night. Sure glad all turned out well.

Thanks to Dion And John for hiking in with shovels, we were able to un"turtle" the FJ and get out.

Seats aren't heated, but I was able to run the heater every hour or so. Got down to 21 at about 2 am

Lots of thanks to go around. Besides Dion and John and big Jim and Don, guys like Mudrak, Tony and Gary's friend Mark were all able to talk to Tina and help figure stuff out.

Many bonehead moves on my part. To be fully discussed at the next meeting

so I get home from the mud run after scattering the clutch in the cruiser and losing a front arb and after dinner I get the call , Ross had gone lame. That was about 8 pm. After getting texts relaying his position via coordinates , and confirming what trail he took Dion and I decided it was just not good to leave him and we would at least make an attempt to reach him. Ross confirmed via text that he could make it thru the night and that we should be able to get to him, Ha, Ha, Ha, good one Ross.
We found lots and lots of snow. Ross was way the heck up the mountain where he had very little if any business being. kudos cause it took balls to do what he did, and stupidity. dion and I tried at 2 am to follow his tracks but it was not gonna happen in the pick up so we spent the night at the place called Goat Rock up on the M61 just before you reach the top . With windchill it was 11 deg. , we are smart tho and had food, fuel, blankets, shovels . At about 8 am we decided that Don and Gunner were comin so we would push on as far as safely, pay attention to that part Ross, possible in the pickup and walk to Ross from there. We found a good spot to leave truck , figured Ross was about 2 or 3 miles ahead in about 12 to 18 inches of snow. tracks were easy to follow and I will note that there were multiple bear, mountain lion tracks about every 100 yards or so. Hiking with a shovel and no gun was a little sketchy. well guess what Dion found 2.5 miles of snow hiking later ? Ross. just then Don and Jim come rolling up to provide proper rescue support. Now it was Don's turn to pull my f250 thru the snow with his fj40, thank you sir. best dam mud run ever. Ask Dion about farts in the truck when it is so dam cold you can't roll window down. Just so everyone knows, Ross was to hell and gone up the mountain and broke trail in fresh snow , solo, no winch or shovel for about 4 miles of straight snow.

Sounds like you guys should have called me, I do have experience in these areas :)

Glad it turned out ok Ross.

Trust me BK, your previous snow adventure immediately came to mind. However, you at least we're equipped for a snow trip. In my case, I was on an open road vs passing any "road closed" gates, but as John noted, was waaaaay past the point I should have turned around.

Also sounds as if the FJCruiser was wheeling pretty goodl uptill you got stuck.

They figure most up there know better, i am just as guilty been there done that had to leave the truck running and let the heat melt down till i could get some traction and 30 point turn it :censor::censor::censor:

dig shovel wheelspin rinse and repeat
lol
good times

Dave, I just emailed my version but you know us...not very good at taking pictures.

On another note...what ever happened to Don and his wife in the 55? We never saw them after we started up powderhouse.

M1 was closed north of the m1 , m61 intersection. Ross was on m1 about 1/4 mile south of that intersection. He took m6 to m61 to m1. The gate at the north end of m1 by the eel river work station is closed. I was quite impressed with how far the fjc had gotten until Don and gunner came in with the fj40's and tootled around like it was nothin. Dion can walk really fast in snow when he is cold and wants to go home.

Exactly one mile south of the M61/M1 intersection

I was as surprised as anyone to have cell signal. It was spotty, but texting worked ok when there was signal

Of the many errors / problems that day, one was breaking my ham antenna on the trail and not having a spare. It has GPS and APRS. You can see where I lost it at aprs.fi (call sign kj6izk)

i have been in almost that exact same spot with my wife on a day run raining when we left turned to snow tried to go back m6 but with 2wd and snow couldnt make it had to go out through covelo .....

maybee that is why she wont wheel with me lol

glad all is well

Man, I'm glad you made it ok Ross! Made for a good read on the PMC newsletter. Good job to those helping a friend in need! This is exactly why I love wheeling, friends coming together, helping out.
