Well i've had my '75 fj55 for 12 months now and so far i've basically driven it home and into town once and then work commenced, at first i thought i was only going to fix up a few things and be ready for rego within a month or so, but after pulling out the floor mats etc. and under all the rubbish was some rust, i decided i should fix it now rather than later, suddenly it became a bigger project than expected.
The more i looked the more rust i found on the floor (not as bad as others i've seen here) only surface rust though, so that was fixed with a wire brush on the grinder and rust converter.
Then out came the headliner, and ditched for good, bow holes welded up, infact all unwanted screw holes were welded up to get ready for painting, i'm still on the lookout for something that will make a good replacement headliner, i did buy some thick upholstery but i got the last of 2 different coloured rolls, i wish now i'd got in sooner and bought all 1 colour.
anyway, inside was all fixed up and painted cobalt blue, my colour of choice for the whole vehicle, the outside will be painted later on when all the rust holes and dents etc. are properly fixed, not just patched.
It now has a new front bench seat, 2 sets of tyres and rims, 1 set i bought, the other donated generously, some rear mudflaps, rear window fixed, LPG tank fixed and stamped, engine bay tidied up a bit, and a stereo put in, all spring and shock bushes replaced, all steering arm/tie rod boots replaced.
It's now at a stage where nearly everything is done to get it roadworhty and registered, hopefully when the roadworthy is done they don't knock anything back.
so within the next couple of weeks if all goes well, my pig will be registered and heading bush.
here's a current photo of her.
cheers,
Dan.
