I could be wrong, but I don't think there is room under the crossbars for two trax.

Likely depends on the cross bars. My Rhino Rack set seems to sit a bit higher than OEM.

But yes, getting two in there will be a tight fit (if even possible).

Yep. Singles sideby side can fit under the OEM crossbars, but not two stacked.

@CharlieS or @mcgaskins have you noticed any increased flex with punching a couple of holes through each of the crossbars? Would that negatively impact the crossbars ability to support the OEM weight limit of ~150lbs (if I remember correctly)?

That’s the only thing I have up there, but I doubt it would reduce the weight limit because the maxtrax mounting pin is bolted securely through the crossbar where it’s drilled. I’ve done the same thing on 3 sets of crossbars with no known downsides.

I agree with @mcgaskins. I don't have any engineering knowledge, so I can't say for sure, but it seems like it remains sturdy.

I used three sizes to step up while drilling, but ended up with a 13/32" drill to create sufficient clearance for the posts.

No idea about load capacity issues, but I run a few extra crossbars to spread the load of anything I put up there.

One thing I'd reiterate from mcgaskins instructions is protecting the roof. It would easy for the drill to contact the roof if you don't do this. I think he used some lumber. I used a cutting board that I keep in the garage for things like this - I like it that it is thin so it can fit in small spaces. A "2x" is too thick for putting under the crossbars.

How do I mount the max tracks to the rear tire?

I would like to mount mine rearward of the spare and to the spare on the swing out arm; Not between the spare and the vehicle but on the rear. I have the ARB bumper and not much room between the swing out and the vehicle.

Thanks !!

I'm interested in seeing what people do for Maxtrax (or other traction board) mounting on your vehicles.

I purchased a set of the Maxtrax mounting posts when I ordered my boards, but I haven't decided how to mount them. The simplest option seems to be drilling holes in the stock rack crossbars and bolt them on. It'd be great to have a solution that would let me remove the mounts easily. I don't plan to have the boards installed all the time, only when I'm exploring or camping, and I'd rather not have the mounts on the roof all the time. I'm not into the overland mall crawler aesthetic.

Definitely deluxe, but I thought the OP was looking for a ways to mount to the spare?

It appears you're the OP and it says nothing about mounting to the spare lol.

No worries, I think there's a similar thread, confusion explained haha.

Wierd, I am so confused. Sorry. I thought @Fisher23 was. My bad. I'm banning myself from 'Mud for the rest of the day.

Sorry for that confusion ... I have mine mounted on my ARB roof rack and have been thinking of mounting the tracks on the spare tire so I have more room on my rack for my outdoor shower pelican case.
