Any shots of how you modified the brackets to get them to work with your Prinsu? Like your set up! Usually traveling with surfboards so room up top is a premium.
I didn't have to modify the brackets at all, or the Prinsu rack. Just used about 1"long 1/4" carriage bolts with nylock nuts and washers. Bolted right up. I am using the last 2 bars on the rack. Had to slide the 2nd to last bar around a bit to line up with the maxtrax mounting holes but that's about it. Maybe 10 minute install.

Awesome, Thank you!

I liked your design and ordered the FR mounts for my Prinsu. Instead of using their supplied eye bolts, I went with some Maxtrax connectors that I already had. I’m not seeing an obvious way to attach these to my Prinsu. Would love to see some close ups of how you attached. Did you use much of the supplied HW for the FR mounts?
they only supplied 1 support bracket. Did you use it on front or back?

I ordered the same. Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like from his description he just attached the 1/4-20 carriage bolts to the Prinsu bar facing upwards via the little drop in T slots slots then those thru the FR assembly bracket holes secured with washers & lock nuts. The spacing of the Prinsu bars will need to match the spacing on the FR mounts & the max trax. Looks like the brackets will stick up a little bit off the rack without the Max Trax attached but seems super easy to remove when not in use. Also looks like the main portion of the brackets have some adjustability to drop or raise the Max Trax to clear the door openings. Ordered mine from Overlander so still waiting for my shipment.

Yep, I think you are correct. When @Cruisin911 mentioned sliding a bar around a bit, guessing a bar was relocated.
In my case, my Prinsu rack upgrades will need to be removed to get the FR mount to sit flush against the side of the Prinsu rack. This includes removing the countersunk washers and/or US Cargo anchor points but hopefully not the Prinsu grab handle with Baja light.

As you can see below my cross bars mounted in the original Prinsu mounting holes won't work. One cross bar will need to be relocated to line up with the other end of the Maxtrax. Easy enough. If only it were as easy as mounting the Front Runner Shower Arm!

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, definitely move the Prinsu bars to match. Mine are totally relocated to fit various stuff. The FR bracket should be able to slide a little on the 1/4-20 carriage bolts inside the Prinsu bar T Slots so you could likely mount & clear your grab handle hardware. I have my Ironman awning quick release mount brackets gapped to clear my Prinsu grab handle hardware...only obstacle is the drop in cut out on the bar as your bolts will need to straddle that hole so they don't pull out when tightened down. I'll try to take a picture of my set up later today for you.

You can see in the first photo awning L bracket/quick releaser bracket is pushed slightly out from flush to clear the grab handle hardware. Still plenty of strength. I did have to put a small washer as a spacer under the L bracket to clear the tiny little lip between the Prinsu bar & the Prinsu side rail, there is the tiniest little height difference between the two.

You can see here how if I loosen the lock nuts I can slide the L bracket along the Prinsu bar channel further out. Also you can see my washers underneath the L bracket making a level surface between the Prinsu bars & Prinsu side.

Thanks for the feedback.
Whats the order info for those washers & bolts? I'm already getting rust on my Prinsu crossbar bolts after only about 6 months.

Any stainless would be good. I went off this recommendation:
1/4" -20. 1" length.

Got washers here:

You can add Permatex anti seize as an extra measure.

This is correct. I have what appear to be the older style mounting brackets as they are 1 solid welded type bracket. I have my maxtrax off for the year, as I'm not doing any more wheeling in the next few months. I can take pictures of my brackets if that helps. I mounted them via the above method to the rear most bar first and then adjusted the prinsu cross bar that closest matched the alignment to the front holes of the maxtrax. Easy day.

Thanks. I got it mounted over the weekend and also added some Racks Brax quick release awning mounts while on it.
Also took off (forget to take pics) as I don't have any wheeling until next month. Will post some photos when I put everything back on in Oct.

Finally got my FR mounts. Overlander.com back ordered them 3 times before I had to purchase them from someone else.

Sorry for some earlier confusion about the "flush" mounting of the FR brackets to the side of the Prinsu rack. I didn't realize at the time that the FR brackets don't have a lot of horizontal length to them to slide on the Prinsu crossbar. This causes a problem because the brackets will be covering the Prinsu crossbar screw holes. I really only see two options to making this work.

1)Slightly enlarge the existing vertical mount holes on the FR brackets so they can be utilized to flush mount the bracket to the side of the Prinsu rack thus accepting the Prinsu crossbar screws to hold in place on the side. This will provide the FR brackets enough clearance from the Prinsu side bar to also use the existing horizontal FR bracket holes to secure to a Prinsu crossbar on top using the 14"-20 carriage bolts. May also need a washer or two between the bottom of the FR bracket & top of the Prinsu crossbar due to the height difference between the two.
2)Making a slightly longer bracket to connect the FR horizontal bracket holes to the Prinsu crossbar so you could slide it slightly so it would clear the Prinsu side/Crossbar screws. Thinking welding some threaded screws on to the end of some flat bar to connect the FR bracket then holes on the opposite end to screw down to the Prinsu croosbars. This would be a very easily removable option.

I plan to go with option 1 as it only involves temporarily removing two of the lower swivel screws so you can dremel the existing FR vertical mounting holes slightly lower. Bonus, once the FR bracket is mounted to the Prinsu & those two bottom swivel screws are replaced there will be no immediate access to someone easily stealing your FR Maxtrax brackets by just unscrewing the Prinsu vertical side screws. You will also still be able to use your security hardware & washers since the bracket is now flush mounted.

I will post some pictures once I get some time to do this.

Anybody else have any other ideas?

I ended up going with option 2. These are the extension brackets I ended up making for my Front Runner MaxTrax brackets. Simple flat bar with some 5/16 bolts welded on. Now the FR brackets can side a little on the Prinsu bars as well as be super easy to remove when not in use. When on I'm using the same Torx screws that I used on my side rail/cross bars that utilize a hard to find bit making them slightly harder to steal. I plan to run some small spacers between the bracket etensions & the Prinsu bars so they clear the edge of the Prinsu sidebar.

FYI I have the TREDs and while they do have their own mounting points, I just stacked them and used some kayak lashing straps to secure them to the roof. They're pretty light and I feel confident they'd stay attached in an accident (high speed rollover aside) and the straps only take about 30 seconds to remove and maybe 60-90 seconds to re-tighten. That said the TREDs will hold water if they are horizontal and I ended up drilling a couple holes in the bottom to ensure water drains out

I have my Maxtrax on my roof too, and they also collect water. They're very accessible when standing on the step sliders (as long as you are 5'-10" or so), and have gotten a lot of good use. They also go back up on the roof when dirty, which I was worried about thinking the pins wouldn't accommodate additional thickness ( I also carry some short ratchet straps to attach them just in case they are too mud covered to close the pins...).

I like the idea of the side or angled racks, but I still have a stock roof rack, so that isn't really much of an option. I especially like how accessible they seem.

Once I get my dissent bumper with tire carrier (still several months out), I am going to buy or make a mount to attach the tracks to the spare tire when I go off road for ease of access, and to get the maxtrax pins off the roof.

I haven't seen an a commercial tire attachment option that I like. The GP Factor is the closest, but I don't like the threaded attachment they have for the boards: seems like removing and reattaching would be time consuming (based on the video I watched). So I will probably rig something up using an aluminum plate and the Maxtrax pins.

On mine -- prior to a roof rack I zip tied them to the OEM rack with those 175 LB zip ties, and would just carry some extra ties to zip them back on when needed.

Now I zip tie them to the roof rack and if they get muddy I zip tie them to the rear tire.

A cheap drill bit will fix the water collection problem. Either that or jam on your brakes and the water will slosh down your windshield the first few stops. I preferred the first option though.

I live on the crest of a hill, so by the time I get to the bottom of our driveway, it is all over my windshield and hood. Free carwash. :)
