Does anyone have pictures of the 1979 FJ40 parking brake assembly. Specifically, I need a look at the inside brake pads, springs and everything else that needs to be connected before the drum is replaced.

hi, depends on ur set up , 79 is close to a transition to self adjustment rear drums with ebrake,

If ur not sure what u have, post up some pics of the rear axle and Trans/Tcase combo.

in the mean time

For auto adjustment and rear brake configure I have this pic on hand from a service
“note the wet rear boot of the cylinder and over lubed adjuster “

For dual cylinders, ebrake on the Tcase, Rear Brake looks like below

Further more, if the brake u inquire is on the Tcase then pic is below

Isn't that lower spring on the wrong side of the shoes? Just rebuilt mine and it was the other way around. I could definitely be wrong, as my wife says...

You may be right. I'm not sure but I had it rebuilt. It works now so I don't want to take it apart to look.

Just for closure, the FSM specifically says "Install the lower side tension spring from the inner side".
