Lovely Cruisers,

Engine bay shows power steering unit on the front right side, near the washer and battery.

This is different from 1980s images I have seen on Mudders rigs, where it is on the F.L. side.

So happens, my Canadian 1980 FJ 40 also is on the F.R. side, I had been wondering if it was not a stock location, but now I guess it is.

Anyone know about these different locations and why?

Cheers Geoffrey

Who needs a spare axle on the trail???? Get me the next 40! Dune beige pls.

The salvage yards full of toyotas (and everything else) are real. I have been to one myself. A Kuwaiti I work with and I made a trip to one a few months ago looking for some parts for my cruiser, the Kuwait yards have most things, but the parts for FJ40s are slim.

They are usually a collection of small salvage yards, with the operator specializing in just one or two models. The small yards are usually grouped together by what they sell as well. This being the middle east, Land Cruisers and Prados are the largest sections, followed by Datsun 240zs, Mitsu Pajeros, and Camrys and Corollas, BMWs Mercedes, followed by everything else, and I do mean everything. From big trucks to school busses, to food delivery mopeds, everything has a section. There are shops that just collect and sell wheels from wrecked cars that take up a couple football fields.

Most of the cars are smashed up pretty bad, the freeway accidents here are worse than any I have ever seen, and I have spent time in more than 20 countries so far.

At least at the yards I went to, the only thing that goes to China is the stripped down, wrecked up chassis. Everything else gets looted by the Vultures first.

The guy I dealt with was from Afghanistan, he had huge hands like a bear. He has engines, transmissions, body parts, rows and rows of glass, etc. He actually imports containers of newer Cruisers from the US and Canada sometimes for parts.

Next time I go I will take my camera.

Oh, I forgot to add, that 90% of the FJ40s here have no heater. They also usually have no roll bars or seat belts, all of these things where options though, I think, because you do see a few that have them? They also have drum brakes at all 4 corners, even on the later models.

Are those current pics. or are they from back in the day? Either way, awsome, thanks for the that. Man, I'd love to wrap those tires around my wheels!

Nice collection.
Apparently down there there is no road salt to rust off the vehicle ;).
I really like to see many FJs in such good condition.

What's that chevy symbol looking thing on the bumper?
No way there is a Chevota swap over there right?

in he background.....

In post #32 in the 8th picture down:

Is that a Unimog sitting way back in the background? I tried to increase the size of the pic, but it got to blurry.

If it is a Unimog, it looks lonely staring at all of those fresh FJs.

BTW - Thank you for sharing your wonderful pics of Cruisers and the really interesting environment where you live.

Teeth to the wind,
Sno Dawg
Jeff
