Well, I just wanted to let all know that I will be the very proud owner of a 1995 KZJ77 in a couple days. A left hand drive one that is. I'm from Canada but living in Honduras, so I know how jealous all you canadians will be for the LHD. It's got a 2" OME lift already, full size home made rack and a few other goodies. I'll take pics of it and post them as soon as I can.

Thats one mdel they should have sold in oz;) Im sure you will enjoy it.

Does this model have the plastic tanks on the radiator like the 90 series?

nothing wrong with rhd. I used to have an HJ61 rhd. I just know many that would prefer a lhd driving on canadian roads in the right lane. (it makes those left hand turns in the intersection a little tricky sometimes.) Not to mention insurance issues. That's all. I love the uniqueness though of the rhd's.
Rosco - I'm not sure about the radiator. I believe so though.

Watch them if they are. The plastic goes so brittle you can poke your finger through it. I suspect this is the cause of the occasional blown head rather than a weakness in the head itself.

hmm. interesting. I'll take a look at that for sure. I blew a head on my 3L Hilux when the rad rotted out. By the time I noticed the temp rise, it was already too late. What would be the best type of aux temp guage to get? I want one that would almost scream out at me with lights or something when it even hints of overheating. Can anyone recommend one?

Im using one of these on my HZJ75 and Im quite happy with it.The seller even covered the warranty when I fawked it up:o
ENGINE WATCHDOG TM2 COOLANT TEMP SENSOR, GAUGE & ALARM - eBay Other, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 17-Mar-10 10:27:18 AEDST)

It takes a little practice to get right. I have the sensor installed on the coolant outlet close to the head and being alloy,it gives a very close reading of the coolant temp as it comes out of the head.
You can set the alarm to what temperature you consider abnormal.
I installed the alarm and gauge unit under the ash tray where it fits nicely and is easy to see in a 70 series

There is another type that sits in the upper radiator hose. You have to cut the hose in half and use the gadget to rejoin it. This type of alarm senses lack of coolant.
This is similar, but the one Im thinking of is a complete kit. Cant find the link right now.

There have been some long debates on oz forums about the merits of each one. Using both should be adequate;)

Of course being a turbo diesel ,a pyro to monitor EGTs, is also a good idea

why would we be jealous?
we have the HZJ77 and the PZJ77.

but still cool all the same, watch the head on those. do all the mods that are recommended for the 2LTE to be safe.

Actually, it's the 1KZ-T engine. The 3.0 turbo diesel. What sort of mods do I need to do to save that head?

I picked her up today. I'm loving it so far. The ride is a little soft though. The previous owner installed a 2" OME lift. But the ride seems overly soft and "rolly polly". I know it needs new sway bar bushings for sure. But could it need shocks I wonder?

Soft is good
be thankfull you have coils:D
sounds cool you must have got the cool roundy dash

you can change out the shocks to the RS9000, adjust for the ride quality you desire.

the KZ is showing the same problems in Canada as the 2lte did when they were frist imported here so the same preventive issues should be adressed, for sure Pyro gauge, aftermarket coolant gauge to make sure what is happening inside.
then if the budget allows, ober sized exhaust, EGR block off (if equiped), turn up the boost but leave the fuel alone (if EGTs are showing high), larger rad if coolant temps show spiking. is your the "E" version?

typical upgrades.

hey crusher - thanks for the advice. Any other less expensive option as far as shocks go? Something with a more firmer than softer ride?
The engine is not the "e" model.

the RS5000 and RS 3000 are firm but comfortable.
even a good HD Monro or Gabriel shock is excellent.

Do you know what size shock I would need to order for my truck? It has a 2" spring lift. When I was under the truck yesterday, I measured the front ones from the centre of the upper bolt to the tip of the bottom pin to be 22" and the rears 18.5". That was with the truck just sitting there.
I'm liking the rs5000 option.

best to remove each shock and note the attachment size, compressed length and full extension PLUS 2". i have found the shocks that come with the kits are too short.
i don't have the part numbers here.
cheers

Hi crushers - so I pulled off that rear shock. It's an OME nitrocharged shock. Really soft though, and not much travel. I have some friends coming down to Honduras from Canada in the next week. Is there a place I could order new shocks from in Canada? Like, somebody you could recommend? I'm also looking for the front and rear sway bar bushings. Thanks for all your help.

you will need to do each shock.
Dan at 4wheelauto.com will be a good source for everything you need.
cheers
Wayne

I'll give Dan a call today.
Has anybody else ever found that the OME shocks are too soft??

When I installed my OME kit (springs.shocks), I noticed as well that the OME shocks were considerbly softer than the the stock OEM. I've had the kit in for about 2 years, so far no complaints.

Joel.
