I would be willing to bet that you will stay interested in the 40 if you hang around Cruiser folks for very long. Cruiser heads are a great bunch of guys and this forum has all of the answers you will need. The search function is your friend.

Later,

Don't go to a casino because you have used up all your luck...

900? are you serious?? Sure you are not missing a 0?
Great deal, enjoy.

I was hoping you missed a 0 in that price. I just bought one not nearly as nice for $3500. Want to make 1000 bucks! Congrats on the once in a lifetime find. Best deal ever.
A few years back i knew a guy that picked up a porsche from a woman in the middle of a divorce for next to nothin, wanted to piss her husband off. Again congrats, you are one lucky sob

thats what i was thinking... looks like someone got divorced and she got all the toys... or maybe he never came back home..

either way you are a lucky man..

I bet you will be pulling your buddies Heeps out of the mud rather than the other way around.

are you kidding me? $900 i already dont like you:flipoff2: just kidding man thats a sweet find

When I went over there I was prepared to find out that it was a scorned wife or ex-wife selling her husband's junk and I didn't want any part of that. But it was titled only in her name and he was there! She literally just didn't want to wheel anymore. She considered it a project in progress and didn't think it was worth much because it isn't totally restored. In the back is a home made box and when I lifted the lid there were a bunch of tools and recovery gear. I said, don't you want your tools? She says, nope it all goes with the truck. Even the Hi-lift. I mean I'm not an idiot I knew she was letting it go crazy cheap, but until you guys said anything I didn't realize just how cheap. I was thinking it is a $2000-3000 truck, not a $7000-8000 truck.

As for the transmission it's not a NV4500 although that would be awesome. It's an H55F. Not sure on the t-case. Stock axles still so it's on 33's and it'll probably stay that way for a while. Can't really go bigger without better front axles and more lift and I'm just going to drive it as is for a while until I figure it all out. Engine runs great, but I am getting a slight exhaust smell inside so I need to check out the exhaust. Anyone know if 210 is where this engine would run at temp wise? It's got a great radiator and doesn't go higher, but we'll see how it does on the trail in the summer. I suspect I'm going to need a better e-fan. Maybe a Taurus for Mark VII fan.

Great find.

The H55F alone is worth the price of admission plus some.

Why do you think you would need a new axle for tires that are bigger than 33"? This aint no Dana 30 or 35.

Not sure about the temp and someone here with more knowledge will answer but I do know that computer controlled injected engines like to run a little warmer than carb engines.

Welcome...Nice find... Go:flipoff2: yerself for getting such a great price!

Obviously we are all a bit jealous.

My only suggestion is to remove the diamond plate and look for rust, as usually that plate is installed to hide things that need fixing.

I suggest you drive it like you stole it, because in actuality, YOU DID.

Welcome to Mud,

T

PS the axles are much stronger than your Jeep Danas. Might I suggest you read and ask lots of questions before you replace anything.

You will find that many of the things you need to do to beef up a Chrysler or Ford product are not necessary for a Landcruiser.

Most likely it is your tailpipe. Search the posts and you will find out tailpipes that exit out the rear of the rig draw in exhaust. Reroute your tailpipe so that it exits to the side, behind or in front of your rear wheel. If you remain topless, I have read exiting out to the side and rear of the rear tire is best.

Cannot remember the exact temperature, but you can drop in a ~180 deg thermostat.

And check out the FAQ --> https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-seri...-asked-questions-f-q-updated-28-jul-09-a.html

Lastly, :flipoff2: (I do not think anyone told you that this is the official MUDD solute).

Now, if your RIG came with a Warn 8274 I would have been :mad::mad::mad:. Still am really jealous of your purchase price.

Were in VA are you? I'm in Amherst Co. maybe we can get together and talk Landcruisers.
BTW, Very nice find.

Mike

I'm in Suffolk, Va; the Norfolk area. I do wheel Crozet a lot, and plan to take this up there although I probably won't beat it up hard at first. That step/rocker panel behind the front wheels looks like it might need to be removed and armored up.

Again, thanks all for the warm welcome. :flipoff2: I did read some FAQs before I posted so I get the greeting. I appreciate all the advice and I will look in to it.

Yes the tail pipe does exit the rear, I'll look in to moving the exit to the side at an angle maybe.

I will look behind the diamond plate and check it out. It's just screwed on with self tappers so not sure what's going on there, but the inside of the tub sounds solid when I hit it. It might be because the tailgate is diamond plate and they just wrapped it around the corner to make it match, but that would have been a dumb idea. Actually the tailgate is pretty neat, hinged at the bottom with two recessed latches at the top kind of like a tool box lid.

So I'll read up some more on stuff like the axles, I just thought the birfields wouldn't take much more than 33s.

As for the fan, I get that people wire it so it can be switched off for stream crossings. I guess what I meant is that it is wired directly to the battery and not switched to run with the key on. I have to turn it on everytime I start it and off when I shut it down. Kind of a pain, but not like I'm complaining or anything. :D

How many miles on the engine?

Please stop! $900? And with an H55 already in it? That's the best deal I've ever heard of! I've invented a new shade of green with envy! Those stock axles will handle a lot more than 33s. Lock the front end and step on it with the wheels turned and the Birfields might grenade, but that's about it. Upgrade Birfs and maybe axleshafts and you're good for 36s, no prob. Congrats on the find!
