trying to figure out how it is all mounted
I'm replacing a 1980 2H with a later 2H from 1986
the throttle linkage and edic setup are different
the newer engine has the throttle linkage on it, but no edic
I have my throttle cable and edic from my 1980 engine
wondering if I can use my old stuff on the newer engine?

Hope it helps.

Thanks mate, that looks like the setup I have currently on my 1980
here are some pics,
this is my current 1980

this is the 1986? I am installing into the HJ47
trying to understand how it goes together, as it is right now, I think the throttle is wide open
if the cable was hooked up there is no more pull in the assembly, it will rotate the forward

Mine is the later 2h. The edic motor bolts to the inlet manifold at three points, one requiring a short extension bush sleeve over one of the bolts about 10mm long. An arm connects the edic motor to the fuel pump which has the same three settings. Edic motor has three settings for the pump ; over fuel, run and stop. Throttle cable is for air intake on manifold.

As far as I know the early and late 2h have the same edic set up. Some of the early 2h's had an oil spinner and or dual fuel filter setup in the same vicinity which should not have any effect on the edic set up. The early 2h has a slightly different, beefier oil cooler and filter mount setup too among other slightly different things, but essentially the same engine.

Some folks bypass the whole edic setup by adding a bowen cable straight to the fuel pump to control run and stop from the pump, over fuel if in cold climate.
Overtime the relays on the edic fuel relay can corrode causing grief, but the edic motors appear to be very robust long lasting. There is a few folks selling new upgraded edic relays, my friend at revive your rig.com makes them, good fella.

There is quite a few post on mud about the edic. One of the best features of the edic setup is the fuel cutoff, if the oil sender reads too low an oil pressure, which relys on the edic relay being healthy.

Bit hard to make out things on your second pic but I would suggest the clamps on the fuel lines are very important, they pacify the vibrations, or your olive ends will wear out and develop a groove not in a groovy way, and eventually leak.
Lots of diesel specialist supply shops sell them, even aftermarket ones, quite cheap, for the insurance they give.

Also, maybe worthwhile cleaning up inside your oil cooler whilst you have good access, if it was neglected they corrode internally and may leak which sure is a pain to do later. But the pump is in the way unfortunately..

the old engine is just like yours, with the linkage to the intake and edic to the IP
the "new" engine doesn't have an air flap on the intake, all the linkage goes to the IP. the IP is different than my old one as to where the edic connects to

interesting, my photo in the bay is factory original 1988 hj75 unmolested. I would have assumed your second pic was the early one. Maybe we got different setups in oz? Did the 1980 have an oil spinner? In Oz they did, really good bit of kit.
🤷‍♂️

I got some info from a good source that said the linkage is different on 2H's in 40 series versus 60 series

must admit my experience is mostly of 40's or 70's down here, so the linkage for a 60 would be new to me. But the actual edic would be the same pretty sure

also just realizing the difference in auto versus manual trans linkage, I'm thinking this is more of my issue.
apparently the auto doesn't use an edic, it uses a different IP
found an old post by a member @Henry James the 47th about the differences and how he overcame them.
he hasn't been on mud in 4 years

indeed, I was thinking the vacuum thingy on your linkage looked like an automatic setup. Sorry I only have knowledge of the hj75 and a little of the 47. perhaps someone with a an auto hj60 shall chime in. However I did just pull a head from an oz hj60 last week, it had the edic, looked similar to the hj75, must have been a manual.

I reckon too if you find the parts diagram for an auto hj60 on amayama it would have an exploded diagram of the parts and order of assembly they are put together, may help.

Not really sure if your' still looking for pics (and these are the ones you are looking for) but made some from my 1986 h2 automatic (European 24v) during lunch break.
If you need anything else let me know 👍
NB, please feel free to comment on the tywrapfest that the PO left behind 😁

Thanks @cruiser86
I know understand what I have and don't have.
just need to decide if I'm going to swap the IP for the manual version or do the work around on the auto IP

Wow! The auto set up looks way more complicated to me. Guess you get use to it. Thank you, really interesting to see the auto set up and the little pulleys connected to the pump. Simple is what simple does.
