Hi all, hope everyone is enjoying the weekend, So heres the issue I have 2 2H engines sitting in my garage, on is a shortblock with no head from an automatic truck, the other is a longblock with a bad bearing from a standard h55 truck.

In order to put the Automatic 2H back into the standard trans truck what do I have to transfer over. If I can I would prefer to use the Injection pump and intake manifold from the 2H auto, if its possible.

My plan is to use the the hopefully good head from the standard truck on the good shortblock,

Anyone have suggestions on this?

Thanks

You would need to remove the drive plate and fit the flywheel.

As I read this you want to a 2H auto Tran into your H55 that had manual tran and swap heads over, injector linkages with different edic motor
setup.

Firstly are you sure the h55 had a 2H and not a H. Also if it is a 2H are they both matching motors as there is a early and later model 2H motor.

If all of the above is ok then between both motors you have enough parts.

I did this conversion on my HJ47, except I hooked my 2H up to an H41 4-speed. My 2H came out of a 1987 HJ60 with auto transmission.

To fit the manual transmission, I did the following:

-removed auto trans flexplate, and put on the rear end plate from manual trans set up (they are different). Then on with the pilot bearing, flywheel and clutch (you will need the proper bolts for this)

-bolt the manual trans into place.

-there are downshift cables connected to the throttle linkage at the side of the engine which connect to the auto trans. I removed these, and trimmed the appropriate parts of the floating lever which connected to the downshift cables

The auto trans-specific set of of the 2H has a different type of injector pump than the manual version. Notably, there is no EDIC system - instead the pump is pneumatically controlled, and engine shut off/on is controlled by a VSV. I preferred the simplicity of this set up, as the EDIC is a bit notorious for becoming unreliable after 20 years or so of use.

Here's the hitch: one thing the EDIC relay was used for was the low oil pressure shut down. Without the EDIC fuel control relay, you will need something to handle this important function if going with the simpler vsv-controlled injection pump. I went with an Australian manufactured control unit, called the TM3 engine Watchdog. Do a search for it and you'll find their website. It works perfectly and is easy to wire in.

Finally, i found the throttle to be quite twitchy without the drag of the downshift cables attached to the floating lever and linkage, and the engine was a little prone to shutting off when dropping revs too quickly. I solved that by adapting a damper valve from a fuel injected Mazda 323 to the floating lever. Check out the last couple of pages of my build thread for details on that. Since that bit of tweaking, the engine works perfectly.

One slight difference in the auto trans-specific injector pump as compared to the manual trans model is that the pump dumps a bit more fuel in at the initial 'Start' injector rack setting, so you will always get a small puff of black upon start up. If your injectors are in good shape, that will be all the black you will see.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. it's pretty simple to adapt the auto-trans-specific 2H to a manual trans application, with a few minor details that need attention, as mentioned above.

Awesome Guys that was exactly what I was looking for, thanks Henry James,

You correctly guessed that the EDIC on the truck was already malfunctioning, and also the Injection pump has half the kms that the manual trans IP had.

If I understand you correctly I can use the 2H auto IP, with some slight mods to the throttle, and some wiring for the shutoff.

Ill read your build thread and if i have any questions Ill pm you, thanks.

Also Ill probably skip the low oil pressure shut off and just be carefull with it.

sorry I should have been clearer, I am trying to put a 2H engine from an automatic truck into a HJ60 that has a bad 2H but is a standard, my questions are mostly related to the Edic Shutoff and lack thereof on the auto.

Im gonna read henrys build as I go through it, but he seems to have answered most of my questions.

I'm new to this but how are use and I have a conundrum I have a 2h and when I put my foot down it makes a banging u really fast any ideas on what it could be
