I did this conversion on my HJ47, except I hooked my 2H up to an H41 4-speed. My 2H came out of a 1987 HJ60 with auto transmission.
To fit the manual transmission, I did the following:
-removed auto trans flexplate, and put on the rear end plate from manual trans set up (they are different). Then on with the pilot bearing, flywheel and clutch (you will need the proper bolts for this)
-bolt the manual trans into place.
-there are downshift cables connected to the throttle linkage at the side of the engine which connect to the auto trans. I removed these, and trimmed the appropriate parts of the floating lever which connected to the downshift cables
The auto trans-specific set of of the 2H has a different type of injector pump than the manual version. Notably, there is no EDIC system - instead the pump is pneumatically controlled, and engine shut off/on is controlled by a VSV. I preferred the simplicity of this set up, as the EDIC is a bit notorious for becoming unreliable after 20 years or so of use.
Here's the hitch: one thing the EDIC relay was used for was the low oil pressure shut down. Without the EDIC fuel control relay, you will need something to handle this important function if going with the simpler vsv-controlled injection pump. I went with an Australian manufactured control unit, called the TM3 engine Watchdog. Do a search for it and you'll find their website. It works perfectly and is easy to wire in.
Finally, i found the throttle to be quite twitchy without the drag of the downshift cables attached to the floating lever and linkage, and the engine was a little prone to shutting off when dropping revs too quickly. I solved that by adapting a damper valve from a fuel injected Mazda 323 to the floating lever. Check out the last couple of pages of my build thread for details on that. Since that bit of tweaking, the engine works perfectly.
One slight difference in the auto trans-specific injector pump as compared to the manual trans model is that the pump dumps a bit more fuel in at the initial 'Start' injector rack setting, so you will always get a small puff of black upon start up. If your injectors are in good shape, that will be all the black you will see.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. it's pretty simple to adapt the auto-trans-specific 2H to a manual trans application, with a few minor details that need attention, as mentioned above.
