Anybody want to knock out the pesky heater hose sometime soon? While I have the coolant drained I'd like to drop in my new radiator as well.

I'd invite you guys over to my place and we could knock the trucks out one at a time, but nobody with a lift will fit in my garage....yes, I'm still lifted out of my garage...it sucks, but I'm working on it. Taking longer than expected though.

If anyone was planning on getting the PHH done (or anything else for that matter) and want to make a little party of it lemme know, I'm good for tools, 2 hands, 12 beers and a pizza :D

Hey...I was thinking the same thing! I just bought the phh kit and new hoses....So count me in. We can do it at my place again..Just let me know.

Get a 12mm ratcheting wrench first... Or is it 14mm, hmm, I think its 12mm. :hhmm:

Brad -When are you looking to do this ? Tomorrow might be good for me. Let me know...

Ok, Sean and I are meeting at his place tomorrow (Sunday) morning to try and knock this out if anyone wants to check it out.

I've got ratcheting head wrenches so hopefully we'll avoid some pain and suffering....hopefully!

See you tomorrow Sean

Maybe this will help:

You can loosen the bolts that hold the heater valve on top and the transmission dipstick tube underneath and move them out of the way.

Remove the top bolt of the metal downpipe (the one that the PHH is connected to on the bottom. Loosen (dont remove!) the second bolt (with the ratcheting wrench) so the tube can pivot. The second bolt is about half way down the back of the engine block.

Remove the old PHH (use creativity here). Pivot the metal tube out away from the engine a bit. Using soapy water, slide the new PHH on the engine block nipple first, then pivot the metal tube back into the other end of the new PHH. Tighten both hose clamps.

Reinstall and tighten all the other bolts you loosened and thats it.

Good luck!

I don't have my PHH kit - does anyone happen to have one locally that I can purchase off of them?

I'll be there in the morning. Either to give a hand or just drink some beer.

Darn... I hate I missed out. I need to change mine as well. I guess I'm left to tackling it on my own. Scary thought!

That was horrific. The hardest retard job I have ever done on this truck, by far.

....but next time will go fast!

I second Brad's thoughts! That sucked big time!

At least you guys have it out of the way and you won't have to worry about it for 10 years or so.

Brad I think you're right, that foam has to have some fiberglass or something in it. Something was irritating my hands, arms and legs.

That right there is really making me want to take John up on his MUD offer. Of course he mentions it a few days after he did my oil change and I no longer work two streets away from his shop!

Okay guys, just found out that I'm going to have to replace my starter. Was recommended that I might want to change the PHH (I said what?). Anyway I know what it is now. Do I need a kit of some sort or do most part houses have the hose? After reading all these posts I'm more than half scared to death. I hope that the foam that caused all the skin irritation was off MGD or something better. Mom, I just wanted to replace the starter. :bang:

If you're gonna do the PHH, it sure helps to have the starter out. Everyone around here uses the hose below, but you can do pretty much anything you want. Figure the original lasted pretty darn long.

The foam was from the bottom of the radiator so dont worry about it.

Speaking of skin irritation, anyone ever get super dry hand peeling from latex gloves?
I had to fix something on my J**p last weekend and sweat a lot in the gloves and now my finger tips are peeling like crazy. It sucks.

Your best bet is to have John do it. I believe his offer still stands.
