The stuff I used I got at EVCO and is "the best" they had. Highest pressure and temperature rating. I can get the specs for you if you want.

If you have a link that would be cool but don’t run an errand for it, the guy behind the counter at aircraft spruce could not tell me much about it, I assume there are not too many blue and red silicone hoses running around?

Is this what you have?

I have a foot of it (pricey stuff) but now I am not sure it is right for this task, I don’t know anything bad about it, just don’t know anything

It is very pliable, looks much easier to work with that the stuff I used the first time,

That looks very much like what Simon and I used. I don't recall that it said "for instrument use only". I never noticed that. It was obtained at a big truck place not aircraft. I've got a buddy in the Aircraft biz... he might know what that means.

Is he in General Aviation? I work commercial; I have never seen this stuff, but we rarely use bulk hose like this, almost everything has crimped/swedged fittings

Instruments generally use low-pressure air, sometimes vacuum and sometimes pressure but never more than -15 to 15 psi, and generally not hot, and never hose this large, generally 1/4" and 3/8" line,

Does not seam to make sense, perhaps this is high-end automotive hose they are selling for general purpose with an extra liability qualifier printed on?

that makes 4 that have used similar looking hose with no problems so as long as it is the same must be OK

I just had my mechanic do my lower and it was fine after 244,000 somewhat miles. ;)

Bad news was I had 8 other heater hoses replaced (some swelling, some not) for a total of about 3 feet of green stripe Gates.

$105 not bad.

I took a few picks of my old PHH for the records.

the blue silicone hose Riley and I used looked similar did not say for instruments only. I would not trust it without stats because there are a lot of hoses out there. Go to a big truck dealer. They will have silicone coolant hose and the price will not resemble what NAPA and others charge. I got about 18" for free.

hmm good point

FYI

Just checked with EVCO...the silicone is used becase is can withstand a higher temperature and tends to last longer. They said it was mostly used on big rigs (throw airplanes in their if you like) because they typically run at hotter temps and for longer periods of time than cars. The silicone tends to last longer. Rated to 350 degrees.
