Did he used to work for Cameron Concepts. I believe this is the truck that had the first supercharger design on it.

I went to visit him at his shop today with another cruiserhead friend and yes he worked for Cameron Concepts and got to see the castings of the original S/C. THe original design is a pretty impressive design, actually it looks nicer than what TRD did by tweaking it. 400 HP at the dyno, but shorter engine life due to too much pressure and power.

Terrax and others, I have recently been set up as a Unichip dealer direct with Unichip US. My dyno at this time is a Superflow 901b and I don't have plans to buy a chassis dyno. My question is, can I somehow get a copy of your programming for all the rest of us with SC trucks that have similar detonation problems. I can compensate you for this obviously. It seems silly to make duplicate dyno runs for similar vehicles with similar add ons. I know plenty of people that will appreciate you selling or donating the program. Being a dealer, I could also make it worth your time. I will be very curious about the US version of the Unichip as the US owner disassociates himself from the Aussie company. Shed Guy, feel free to chime in here.
Pm me if you wish.
Thanks,
Gary

rdublin, I have used Jet products before and have found it to be a timing, fuel reprogramming module, similar to other manufacturers. The HP/TQ figures were low as most normally aspirated "chipped" stock vehicles are. I think we saw about 10-12 HP over the stock program. It had a more agressive timing and fuel programming and netted the owner 1-2 mpg less, due to his left foot probably, but I can't imagine that combination improving efficiency. I did this about 5 years ago at a shop with a chassis dyno, no front driveshaft and locked center diff on a 96.

Terrax, is the porsche shop now able to dyno the land cruiser? Can you pass on to me the name and location of the shop? Thanks.

G'Day waggoner5,
Guess anyone who has to sell performance equipment in competition to others would try and distance themselves from the competition.

I know APS/Safari wouldnt appoint a distributor who didnt have a dyno, because they know how crucial it is to set up correctly.

I certainly would not entertain the option of "one size fits all" petrol engine piggy back computer, and installing them without a chassis dyno, and only on road will not gain the maximum bang for buck for the customer. [APS in Aus use lpg heaters to lift dyno room ambients for testing, and can maintain much more loading than any road test with traffic can produce]

The fact that you can run 16 deg static advance on some 4.5's and 8 deg max on others when standard is proof on its own that they need to be individually tuned, as head machining during head gasket replacement, can alter comp enough to create timing and detonation issues, let alone once forced induction is introduced.

If I were unichipping another car for myself now they have the dual map model, I would be running a map for premium unleaded/max boost, for maximum grunt, and a map for standard unleaded petrol, so if doing a long trip, or going into areas where premium isnt available, I could just flick the switch on the dash, and go to setting 2 tuned around standard fuel.

That would be consistent with what I'm seeing. I'm getting about 11-12 mpg in city driving right now, but that may be due in part to a partially crushed exhaust pipe (just in front of the muffler) that I picked up on the Rubicon last month. Prior to that I was getting 13-14 mpg. The rig seems to have better pickup than the other 80s I've driven but that's very subjective. I'm considering getting a turbo kit and assume that means the JET chip will have to be replaced as well?

Thanks,

Rod
