Hey guys/gals

New to mud... just bought a 88 fj62 for a weekend toy (camping mostly).
We live in central AR and like to hit the parks throughout the state.

I'm having a little trouble with the new land cruiser... here goes:

Timing is spot on, per one of the threads on this site.
cap, rotor, button, wires, plugs .032 gap.
wires in correct firing order, triple checked.
injectors 1&2 were swapped on clips - now fixed.
injectors 1-6 firing correctly
slight leak on the intake mani near #6, very slight.
new fuel filter
all cylinders wet with fuel
spark plugs 1&2 were white... I assume switching the injector wiring will fix this.
solid grounds
clean tank, premium fuel
no codes, no codes, and still no codes.

I'm running very low power under 2500 rpms.... feathering the throttle helps build rpms. 2500 rpms and above the ol 3fe comes to life.

coil not tested - assumed ok
tps not tested - possible promblem?
fuel pressure regulator not tested - possible problem?

advancing the distributor fully smooths the roughness out but doesn't fix the power loss.

Any ideas guys??

Fuel filter in tank replaced? Thats the important one. Then might as well put in a new denso fuel pump 98.00 on e-bay. O2 sensors are critical. Go Hogs!!!!!!! MIke

Poor performance at low rpm, but good performance at higher rpm. Probably not a fuel supply issue. Sounds like timing/vacuum advance/vacuum leak issue. Double check all hoses for leaks and correct routing. John

msd coil installed
tps installed per thread on this forum

No change in performance

FPR on order (3-5days)

I will be working on vac system, intake gasket in the mean time.

thanks for all your input guys--- keep them coming

The injection on a 3FE's batch- so having the wires swapped won't make much difference.

What WILL is having injectors that flow less than the others. On these primitive injection systems,
if the injectors aren't pretty closely matched, the computer will richen all 6 if 1 or 2 are lean.
It then gets the right average- but some are lean and some are fat, and you get
emission results that are confusing. Like high NoX AND high HC.

It's not a ton of money ($20 an injector or so) to have them cleaned and flowed.

She's gone to the shop.

intake gasket, injector testing, injector seals, and vacuum system are on the top of my mechanics to do list.

thank you guys for your help
I'll keep you updated

Nice looking rig! Welcome to the hobby. Just curious what mechanic you're using for your 62? I'm in Little Rock and am looking for a dependable mechanic around this area.

Good luck with your problem.

I'm on the search for a good cruiser specialist too. Arkansas Performance Exhaust (APE) suggested Cruiser Company. I've yet to make it over and meet them, but they have a couple nice rigs on the site: cruiserco.com

My cruiser is still sitting in the shop... hopefully more news by the weekend.

I did take a picture of the new rubber.

pm'd about the wheels.

The cruiser is back. After it sitting at the shop having nothing done to it I decided to bring it home. I really hate it when I get put off again and again because I'm easy going. Just because I don't like friction doesn't mean I shouldn't get good service.

Sunday I plan to dedicate my entire day to working on it.

wish me luck.

You might be happy you got your truck back from Bobby at Cruiserco. I took mine there for a 4 speed conversion + other things and it ended up being a disaster. I posted in this thread up above about my truck not having any power in low rpms. Well that started after Bobby worked on it, i went to pick it up and it ran like complete crap. Amusing that he would have been trying to fix a similar problem for you which he 'caused' for me. My truck has never run right since then. I made a thread a year ago or so documenting the substandard work I received from Bobby and the Cruiser Company.

Any luck diagnosing your Cruiser's problems?

I just replaced the fuel pressure regulator in my 88 fj62 and it solved a host of problems. It's a cheap fix, about $35 from rock auto. You'll need a 7/8 crows foot wrench to access it and tighten it down good!
