PCV Valve Replacement Question (1 Viewer)

My son was helping me with an oil change last night and spilled oil on the engine cover. This morning I took the cover off to clean it and found my PCV valve has been spurting some oil from around the grommet. After fighting to get a 150k mile grommet out, I'm in the process of replacing. Not wanting to drive an hour to the Toyota dealer and back I'm just going to run down to the auto parts store and pick up a valve, grommet and some replacement hose as the stock hose was brittle and cracking.

My question is: The hose connects to a piece on top of the TB. Once I pulled the hose off I noticed there was 150k miles of burnt oil caked inside. Can this be taken off and cleaned? Pic of what I'm talking about below

Looks like there's two screws on either side of it . . .

I would be careful about getting anything in there, that's straight into the intake.

Well that's my point. I know that I CAN take it off, but not knowing what its function is, I just don't know if taking it off would screw something up. Didn't know if there was a gasket or something that would get messed up by taking it off.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Did you ever find an answer to this? I pulled my PCV hoses today at 280k miles and there is definitely some buildup. Looking at the parts diagrams I cant seem to figure out much other info.
