I've looked in the FSMs and in Hayne's for a description or pic of the 2 parts I'm trying to locate. No luck there.

First one is a vacuum switch/VCV? that boosts the idle speed when the a/c cycles on. It's located on the driver side wheel well. It's got an electrical connection, and 2 vac hoses running from it to the carb. The number on the body of it is 084600-3330 12V manufacturer is nippon denso.

Second part is a belt tensioner pulley looking thing. It is attached by a bracket to the lower part of the engine and can be seen from the left front wheel well when looking into the belt on that side.

Thanks!

for the vacuum valve, USA FJ60 application through 4/85 the p/n is: 88690-90A00. This part might be discontinued as it doesn't pull up at an online site I use for looking up OEM parts. Here's the excerpt from the parts microfiche so you can show it to your dealer to see if he can find it. It's in the "heating and air conditioning vacuum piping" section of the parts list.

I'm confused about the location of the belt tensioner. there is a belt tensioner associated with the AC compressor, but it's on the right side of the engine (passenger side) for the stock location. Is this what you're talking about? On the stock engine, the lower left location is where the smog pump should be. For desmogged rigs, SOR sells an idler-pulley to replace the smog pump. See the smog pump eliminator kit in the middle of this page: http://www.sor.com/sor/cat048c.tam?xax=15733

Thanks 2mbb! I'll wander down to the toyota place today to check on that vacuum switch. I got a feeling that it will be pricey if they can get it at all. I'm wondering whether an early camry or other toyota with carburation might employ the same kind of thing.

My DUH on the tensioner! Just like my old drill seargent used to say "Your OTHER left "...Yep, it's the RIGHT side of the engine. Is there a name for that pulley?

It's the a/c belt tension pulley. It will show up on the parts page with the a/c compressor.
