The ball joint on my rear view mirror is starting to lose its grip. The mirror is a little floppy (not at the windshield mount, but between the mirror back and the mounting arm). Based on posts here, I don’t think that’s fixable. Before I spend ~$100 on a new OE mirror, anyone had luck fitting a junkyard mirror from a different Toyota, or are these LC-specific? Ideally I’d find a tan one to match, but black would be ok.

Or is there indeed a quick and easy hack to put a little friction back into the ball joint? The mirror is in good shape otherwise, I hate to toss it.

I had the same issue on one of my 100s when I first bought it, and couldn't at the time find a clean swap alternative, so I waited until Toyota was running one of their periodical parts discounts and ordered a new OEM mirror. Check on the thread for the discounts and see what it comes out to, might be your best bet. I don't think I'd waste the time and effort on a junkyard mirror, the original one went for 25 years, replace it and don't think about it again!
