Can anyone help me identify this part from a 1978 BJ 40? I think it might be causing disfunction of the EDIC

looks like an early edic control relay so would effect your edic. There is a fair bit of stuff on edic here, bit of a can of worms and can be deleted with a bowden cable..

like many development, evolution, upgrade improvements they make over the years, clever electrical controls to make life a little easier but comes with a bit less reliability.

They don't last forever like the timing capacitor (cheap), and like all electrical connections can develop bad earth ground. 30-40 years aint bad tho.

If the rust hasn't obscured your part number, or you find the part number for the relay on an epc, there is a guy on ebay who makes them nicely for a fair price. Or go the bowden cable like a tractor.
