Yup, looks like you're gonna need a new wife...

Sooo, you're saying the back up sensor was a BAD idea? Hmmm...maybe I'll get her a waffle maker too.

At least I got her out to work on it! We pulled the bumper end off and pounded it out, straightened the bracket, and will live with it for a while. I asked if she was OK with my mediocre repair job, and she said she actually likes it..adds character! I'm good with that. I hope she feels the same way about the upgrade! :D

Update if anyone cares: Body shop estimate came back at almost $900. We'll use insurance for this one. I could save some by buying parts for the Tercel (victim) from Dan, and might still do so, but I'll let insurance worry about this.

I guess you will just have to replace the bumper with something a bit stronger just incase :)

And the wife can't give you crap about it now, bonus!

Which means you gotta get the front bumper, too. Can't be rolling around looking all lop-sided. :D

MDarius -- Have you posted this on Wildyoats? Bunch of Utah guys there. You always gotta watch your 6 in those crazy Mormon church parking lots---they get crazy. :grinpimp:

One other trick with popping out the rear bumper corners is to use a heat gun carefully to heat the small creases left when it is back out. You can usually manipulate them with the end of a screwdriver handle or other round object and they will "loose" the memory of the smooshed position and return more to their orginal molded shape. Good luck.

This looks like it might be a candidate for some 'liner? Anybody ever put any brand of bedliner on the plastic parts like this? Would be curious to see if it's durable. I think it would look good for a while, but I wonder if it would start flaking off after a short while (?)

That would get rid of the 'scarred' look, and would even add more to the character and "unique-ness" of the truck.

Dan.

I haven't posted on Wildyoats, I was looking for that connection. Thanks!

Mormon parking lots: Yeah, my wife says she lost traction when she hit a puddle of green jell-o. I think she was just horsing around.

Heat to pop out corners: I wish I'd have thought of that before I used the hammer! Now I have hammer scuff marks in addition to the scars from the tercel.

Bed liner: not a bad idea! I've got a buddy in Logan that does bed liner stuff. I'll have to ask him his opinions.

Back up sensors help much, they have an audible alarm, but you got to pay attention to them.

Go with your insurance...

If the police weren't called, go with your pocket. Because the insurance has no way of knowing what really happened.

And your insurance will give them a ridiculous sum of money.

AAA paid this girl who my friend hit almost 2500 dollars for something that could have been plungered, bondo'd and touch up painted.

Man, you should have milked it. When my (now-ex) wife wrecked my Porsche (in Germany), taking it from this:

to this:

I took advantage of it being mod-time. I took it to a guy in France who tunes watercooled Porsches, and a couple months and $12,000 worth of work later it came back looking like this:

Moral of the story: When your wife wrecks your car, use her guilt as leverage to buy mods.

So I'd go with using out of pocket money to buy mods.
