I just bought a truck with surface rust on the roof. I want to remove the rust and paint the roof flat back. So from what I've read online here are the steps I'm going to take. Let me know if this is a good way to go about it.

1) Start to sand down the rust with coarse and finish with fine.
2) Sand down all the paint from the roof
3) Brush on some POR15
4) Spray some Rustoleum Primer (Rattlecan)
5) Spray flat black paint (Rattlecan)

Am i missing steps? Is there a step I can skip?

I plan to use the truck for about 2-4 years only. Picked up kind of a beater.

Thanks for any input.

Any input would be appreciated. Going to try to tackle this over the weekend.

Happy new years!

I would at least use a prepsol to clean any wax or other contaminates from the surface prior to any sanding as that may imbed them in the metal.
